Hey guys!

I have the laptop ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA706IU, with one slot of 16gb and there's another available slot. I would like to add more ram, and according to ASUS website I'm limited to maximum of 32gb:

However I stumbled across a website called "Compuram" and there they argue that my model actually supports 64gb, and they have a blog page that explains their theory of why many times you can safely install more RAM than allegedly supported:

I'm wondering if this is something I can trust? In your experience are there cases where one can install more RAM than stated by the laptop provider?
I would be happy to buy one 32gb card so that I might add another one in the future, but according to ASUS website, my model doesn't support 64gb and the single 32gb card isn't suitable either. From ASUS website:

"
8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM x 2,Max Capacity : 32GB
8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM,Max Capacity : 32GB
16GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM,Max Capacity : 32GB
16GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM x 2,Max Capacity : 32GB
Max Capacity : 32GB
"

What do you think?

Thanks a lot in advance

The following received via PM so the thread has been reopened so that others are made aware that such a mishap can and has happened;

Hello

You recommended me to use Crucial scanner to find out what memory I need for upgrade, their scanner scanned my laptop and recommended me to buy deskptop laptop, that's quite shocking, please don't recommend them to anyone they made me buy the wrong RAM.

Having just done a Google search using ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA706IU Crucial upgrades I got the results here all RAM at the link is 100% intended for notebook computers, in your thread on another forum here you post a link that show the results here there is a clear mis match of the types of RAM on offer.

It is not for me to make excuses on behalf of Crucial and I won`t, I would be taking a screenshot of the results and then be contacting Crucial to take them to task over this, save the link to the results and include that as well, Crucial do say that their RAM is 100% Guaranteed Compatible so they have no argument, let`s hope that they see fit to offer you something for free to make up for their mistake.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention sir-haver and sorry for the inconvenience that the mishap has caused.

Hello and thank you for your help here

Yes that's accurate, I'm trying to contact their support now and I'll post here very soon the conversation thanks

Ok so I had a correspondence with Crucial support, they were very nice and apologized for what happened, promised to fix that bug advising people to buy the wrong RAM, and offered my 10 GBP as compensation on my next purchase.

All in all I could have avoided this mistake but I'm not very knowledgeable about the appearance of RAM cards...

sir-haver,

You post here asking for help and were genuinely directed by myself to the most appropriate source, please give them a kick in the backside then come back to let us know how you got on.

Hey there phillpower2 yes you're totally right I talked to them didn't you get my last post here? They were very sorry and promised to fix this bug, and offered me some kind of compensation

Hello sir-haver,

While not ideal at least they acknowledged that they were liable for the mistake, glad you got it sorted and thanks for letting us know.
