I am plagued by undeletable lines in my edition of MS Word 2007. This happens when I press Return on the keyboard after typing a series of short-dashes to form a separation line on a given page of text. This action instantly converts the row of dashes into a thin continous line, which short of machine-gunning the wretched thing, remains resolutely unbanishable by any means within my (limited) knowledge. I have done the usual things - gone into Page Borders and selected 'None' next to the illustrated line in Style. Result: zilch. I've also tried Autocorrect Options in Word Options and unticked Border Lines. Again: zilch.

Somehow, though, I don't think I'm on the right tracks here. I don't think this is a page border thing at all, but a pagination fault in Word itself. Also, it might be worth mentioning that my edition of Word 2007 sits on top of Windows 10 - which suggests that there could be any number of devils lurking in the details here, though again I could be wrong. Whatever, this problem is making word-processing a complete pain at present. So any help or advice would be extremely welcome. Thanks in advance.

the quick fix is to type your dashes as you currently do, hit enter and that converts to a solid line then hit Ctrl+Z to undo.

it'll convert the solid line back into dashes and you keep on typing.

long term fix is to go to File > Options > Proofing > Auto Correct options > AutoFormat As You Type tab > untick Border Lines

that's for Word 365, so change accordingly for 2007.

The version of Word may not be compatible with Windows 10.
Is it a separate program or part of Office/Microsoft Works?
Have you reinstalled Word using compatibility mode?
Yes, I think you've nailed it there, insofar that I'm coming from Office 2003 with Win 8.1, to Office 2007 supported by Win 10. The option of selecting compatibilty mode occasionally getting flagged when I'm saving certain Word documents from the previous setup. Fortunately the problem seems to have gone away now, at least for the time being. Thanks for the imput.
