Does anyone know how to change the default download folder in Free Download Manager. Currently it is set to a Downloads folder on my C drive which is my SSD. I want to change this to a folder on my D drive which I use for storage. I only have about 190GB on my SSD and want to only use my SSD for my OS and Applications. I have looked at FDM's settings and can't find any option to change the download folder which I find weird since pretty much any program I've ever had that involves downloading anything or editing files gives the option of an output folder. I'm getting tired of having to move the downloaded files from my C drive to my D drive, all this is doing is adding wear and tear to my SSD when I constantly have to move and delete Large downloaded files from it. I also tried changing the path of the download folder from C to D, but for that folder it won't let me do it.

don't do it in the FDM settings, do it at the Windows level, that way ALL your downloads will get directed away from your SSD.

fire up File Explorer, right click the Downloads folder, select Properties, go to the Location tab, type in D:\Downloads and hit OK.
repeat for any other folder you want to move off the C:\ drive.

Actually that Downloads folder is already set to my D drive, the downloads from FDM are gong to C:\Users\Brandon\Downloads I have tried to change the path for this folder but it won't let me, it doesn't even give me the option to change the path.

When you download anything, you should see a popup (perhaps not in Internet Explorer - I don't use that enough to remember). That allows you to change where you want things downloaded.

Just come across this thread, the easiest way to choose a download location is to integrate the download manager into your browser as per below. Once the app is integrated you can set the download within the browser options to wherever you like.

Gee IMHO there are better download managers though:oops:

Sorry about the VERY late reply, I already have FDM integrated in FireFox, yet it still downloads to this other downloads folder on my C drive, which I can't for some reason change the path of.

This picture is not from Firefox but a Mozilla based browser which should be the same.

If you have the download manager integrated into FF and the FF download option set to wherever you want then suggest there is an issue with the app?

Its gor to be a problem witht he downloader. Becuase when I download files using Firefox, they go to the Downloads folder that I created on my D drive, but when I use the download manager that is integrated into firefox the files go to the Downloads folder on my C drive.

OK so I have installed Firefox to check this.

Integrated Free Download Manager into FireFox.
Verified and allowed Extension to be added to FireFox.
Also make sure the box "Start downloading without confirmation" is unchecked (as below)

Then opened FireFox again, navigated to something to download. Clicked on the download button.
Free Download manager picked up the download and this dialogue box gave a default download location and also the option of choosing wherever I preferred.

Here I have chosen to Download the file to my D Drive Test Downloads folder, which worked.

See thats where I have it diferent I have it set to download without confirmation, so I'll give it a try and check, be back in like 30 seconds.

Yep that worked, now if we can figure out a way so i don't have to confirm the download all the time. I just made sure it was set to D drive and then turned the confirmation off, I'm downloading a file right now we'll see if it goes to my D drive.

sssshhhh, no yelling aloud:)

The only drawback that I can think of when you uncheck the "start downloading without confirmation" box is that you will have the download dialogue box show everytime you want to download something, but as that dialogue gives you a choice of where to download it's no biggie. You are correct though, on my install it remembered my download location choice for the next download tried, so I'm guessing you can now select "start downloading without confirmation again" and it will go to your newly chosen download location automatically.

Glad you got it sorted.

It really is a pretty ordinary, and huge, download manager though.

If you are happy now will mark it solved?
