My Dell 17 Inspiron has 2 drives

OS (C) 8.67 GB free of 98.5 GB
and DATA (D) 924 GB free of 931 GB

How can I transfer the 900+ GB
to my C: drive? I keep running out
of memory in my C drive..

I am not a techie at all and wonder
is there a simple way to doing
the transfer?

I am grateful for any suggestions.

You are attempting to put more data on to less space.

Your C drive only has 8.67 GB , and you are attempting to put 900 and or more of Data onto it. There is no way it can be done with the total being 98.5 GB.
OS(C:) 8.67 GB free of 98.5 GB

You will have to get a larger HDD to do this. Why not use the D drive since it is showing 924 GB available.
DATA (D:) 924 GB free of 931 GB

Filling you C drive will cause more issues in the long run. Windows Requires 32 GB available space for update plus and additional 7- 10 GB for future updates.

Not including if it is turned on backups.

What are you attempting to transfer and why not put on the DATA drive?

Even swapping the two drives around you will not have the space. You will be running into the same issue as before.

You can free up space on your C: drive, to allow windows some breathing room. You can use Treesize to find files on your machine that you may wish to delete.

  • First download and save the portable version of Privazer to your desktop.
  • Go through the options a set Privazer to your needs, select basic or advanced user.
  • When you are done setting Privazer to your needs, then click on start cleaning then scan.
  • This scan can take a while to complete, so it is best that you do it when you have some free time.

You can use the Everything Search Engine to find and remove files from your machine.

Searching for file extensions in Everything Search, to help you along the way is easy.
You can simply type .mp3 to find all of your music, or .mp4 to find your videos.
You can open the file from the tools gui by double clicking it, and then decide if it needs to go.

Using Master Seeker To Find Large Files Over 1 Gigabyte.

  • Download Master Seeker to your desktop, right click it and run as administrator to start the application.
  • To search for files that are a certain size, you can use the search terms in the picture below.
  • By using this method you can find and delete files of a certain size, like 500mb or 1gb.

  • Say you want to find all files 1gb or larger, you type 1gb into the search window of Master Seeker.
  • This will list all files on your machine that are 1gb give or take a few mb.
  • Then you simply right click and delete if you feel the file needs to go.
  • You can search for files of 2gb size, or 300 mb, obviously you want to seek out the larger files with this tool.

I don't think you have 2 drive - could have
Most likely you need to expand C drive
Lets get a pic of you drive(s)
If windows 10
Right click Start
Click on Disk management
Click on the restore button -top right corner to expand to full size and take a screen shot

To take a screen shot press the windows key and the Print screen key
This will put a picture in Pictures>screenshots
Attach pic

For some reason, my laptop will not allow me to PrnScr the Disk Management page. Any other page yes, but not that one.
The only other alternative is for me to transcribe what it actually shows.

Ok you do have 2 drives
1 drive may be an NMVE drive and the other a standard drive.
Can we have the service tag number to check the computer specs.
If you have an NVME you may be able to replace it with a larger NVME
The other option is to use a program to clone the existing drive to the Data D drive - it is empty
Make that the boot drive.
If you do this and the smaller drive is an NVME and the other drive is a standard drive you will notice a performance hit
Let's see what the service tag shows us

Sorry about the delay. The service tag is 6BD6B43 which is actually embossed on a rear label on my laptop.

by the look of things your computer is using one of these as drive C
Option 1) Buy a bigger card + a connector and clone current drive
2) clone current drive to drive d
and you should see a performance drop - how bad??? noticeable ???

if you upgrade your 128 read below
Removing the solid-state drive/Intel Optane You need to disable the Intel Optane device before removing it from your computer.

Thanks for your suggestion, Peter.
That's what I will do .....Option 1) Buy a bigger card + a connector and clone the current drive.

Cheers
Peter

Thanks for all this, I found a techie person in my town who can sort this. I have given him all your suggestions.
