I originally bought the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut (a paste/grease) for superior thermal conductivity (for use on CPU and GPU). However after opening up the laptop and removing the heat sink, I noticed some of the manufacturer’s thermal pads were broken, so I figured I would replace them too. I’ve been doing research, and I like the Gelid Ultimate Pads, which offer 15 W/mK conductivity and are non-electrically conductive. I’ve seen others with even 17 W/mK. Then it occurred to me, that this rating is better than the Kryonaut’s, which stands at only 12.5.
I’ve been trying to find out if paste is better than pads, but all the youtube videos suggesting as much typically use a lower quality pad compared to a higher quality paste. Other than the possibility of air pockets inherent to pads, is there any other reason I should use the Kryonaut over the Gelid pads for my CPU and GPU?
