Hey chaps! Im having this weird problem.........

When I turn my PC on, after a few seconds it turns straight off

I have unplugged absolutely everything usb and it still does it.....then I tried pulling out the graphics card and it still did it, I also tried unconnecting various hard drives but it still did it......I tried about 20 times, tried reseating the Ram Sticks....then tried replugging connectors in but still did it......then eventually it DIDNT do it and actually came on.....now I am here online emailing you, hoping you can help me or offer advice?

There is no beeping sound when it turns off, just simply powers off........Also on other occasions it has sometimes stuck on the PC Specialist screen and never actually continues to boot in windows but USUALLY turning off and on and again fixes this

I wonder if your tech guys can help me at all?

3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780
16GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P
ASUS® SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s,
AMD FX-8350 Eight Core CPU (4.00GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+

just to throw it out there... but it sounds like the power button maybe sticking, in the 'depressed' state (oh, poor sad power button ;)) and that is forcing the PC off.

try disconnecting the front panel cable from the motherboard header and just shorting out those two terminals with a screwdriver and see if it starts normally.

Hiya! Thank you for the fast reply! Its certainly got me thinking! However, my power button is a hard one and there is always a definite "click" on pushdown, also it would always seem to shut off at the exact point each time, almost like it cant get past a certain part of the startup......also its never switched itself off once your up and running, I can leave it on for days and its fine, but if you have to turn it off for any reason then starting it up again is where the probs start

OK, fair enough, I'd have to agree with you then, I think we can move past that potential cause. (never hurts to check the dumb things)
hopefully others will tag in soon.

How old is the system?

How ling has this been happening?

Is this a preassembled system or one that you built?

The the back of the motherboard touching the frame at all?

What changes (configurations and hardware) besides video card and RAM?

Are the fans spinning when you power on the system?

Have you tried re-seating all power and data cables?

EDIT: Power Supply: Make, Model, and wattage

Hiya! I had the PC built for me in 2013 by PC Specialist, I have had issues before where it wouldnt boot up yes, but I managed to cure that by unplugging the USB wifi adapter until windows came on and then plugging it back in and it was fine......This went on for a couple years.....Then I went to ethernet cable and the problem was gone (apart from the odd occassion where it would just stick on the boot screen (pc specialist) so I would have to turn off and start again and it was fine)

I also had a problem in the past where I thought it was a hard drive because it sometimes do the same thing until I unconnected an internal hardrive, (not the C drive) then booted up windows, then shut down the pc and REconnected the hard drive and then booted up again fine! (eventually I just bought a new hard drive)

So as you can tell I have had issues with this pc before, however what was scary about THIS time was the fact I actually unplugged EVERYTHING......all USB stuff, all hard drives (apart from C drive) reseated all the ram and yet it STILL kept shutting off!

One thing to note is that there are there two fat cables that are running into what I think is a fan at the back........these two cables sometimes TOUCH the big side fan on the side door....so I have to just push them up slightly to clear the fan and thats the only thing I did THIS time before the PC started up again.

My power supply is a TX750 watt hope that helps

All fans are spinning yep! Im not sure about the motherboard touching the frame I have to confess

One thing to mention (might be unreleated) is lately Im having screen crashes (just for a few seconds the screen goes black) then it all comes back and it tells me Nvidia driver has crashed! ...I have updated to the latest version so I cant think its that?

Oh and another thing to mention is the PC is constantly on 24/7.......with the exception of the weekends

Any update for us? This thread will be closed if not replied to within 48hrs.
