Hi wondering if anyone could tell me what ram and graphics card I should get for my gigabyte GA-F2A78M-HD2 (rev. 3.0) mother board I’m currently on 8 gb of ram and no graphics card

Hello 07mcdkyl01,

Be happy to help you with the upgrades but it is not as straight forward as us just suggesting more RAM and a GPU for you, there are certsin things that need to be taken into account.

What processor do you have, this determines the fastest RAM that you can upgrade to.

What are the details of the present 8GB stick of RAM you have, if for example it is an 8GB stick of DDR3 1333MHz all you can do is get a matching spec stick of 1333MHz RAM, if you want and can use anything faster than the RAM that you presently have you will have to purchase two new sticks.

What is the brand and model name or number of the PSU, any new GPU needs to have an appropriate power supply to support it.

What type of case do you have, your MB is the smaller micro ATX type that are most often used in small form factor cases, modern GPUs can be quite big so we need to make sure that any new GPU will fit inside of your case.

The processor is a AMD A6-6400k APU with Radeon HD graphics 3.90 ghz as for the ram it’s 2x 4gb DDR 3 1600mhz and the case is big enough to fit two GPU as for the psu I can’t find the brand / label

You need to take off the side of the case to get the PSU information, we cannot safely advise you without the correct information, to do so would be reckless on our behalf.

The computer only having integrated video and a micro ATX board are typical of the specs that a brand name computer would use, one real down side to this is that they also use cheap generic PSUs as well.

Is the computer a brand name or a custom build.

It’s a gigabyte the power supply is blank

The safest thing that you can do is choose a GPU and then the appropriate PSU to power it.

This gives you an upgrade path of upgrading your RAM to the following;

Two 8GB sticks of 1866MHz capable RAM.

A new GPU.

An appropriate PSU to power the GPU.

Cheers thanks for the help
