Hi everyone, I need some help with a frustrating issue after moving houses. Here’s the situation:

The day before I moved, I decided to clean my computer, as I always do. Everything was working fine at that point. However, after setting everything up in my new house, my computer wouldn’t display any signal on the monitor when I turned it on.

Initially, I thought the issue might be related to the graphics card. I tried everything I could think of:

• Unplugging and re-plugging the GPU from the PSU.

• Checking all the connections.

• Reseating the GPU multiple times.

When that didn’t work, I decided to fully reseat all the hardware, thinking something might have been misplaced during the cleaning process. I double-checked everything, did it again and again—but still no signal.

After spending some time troubleshooting, I noticed a steady orange LED lighting up as soon as I power on the PC. (I don’t remember seeing this light before, so I’m not sure if it’s always been there.) After doing some research, I learned that the orange light is related to DRAM.

Here’s what I tried with the RAM:

• Reseating the modules.

• Swapping them to different slots.

• Testing the PC with one RAM stick at a time.

Still, nothing worked. I even:

• Reset the motherboard multiple times.

• Cleared CMOS.

• Tried booting without SATA, GPU, or RAM.

No matter what I do, the orange LED comes on instantly, and the computer won’t even get to the BIOS.

Some additional info and thoughts:

1. The PC worked perfectly in my old house, so I wonder if the issue could be power-related.

2. In the new house, my PC is plugged into a surge protector along with other devices (monitor, lamp, etc.), whereas it was plugged directly into the wall in the old house. Could the PSU be struggling to get enough power?

3. Is it possible the computer is displaying something, but the monitor (which was also moved) isn’t working properly?

I’m at a loss here. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hello

Try one stick of RAM and by following all of the steps below.

Make sure you have a keyboard connected,

Ensure that your screen is connected to the GPU and not a video port to the MB.

• Reset the motherboard multiple times.

• Cleared CMOS.

How to properly clear the CMOS is explained in my canned info below;

How to physically test your RAM.

The following checks require the computer case to be opened so take the following safety precautions 1st, disconnect the power cord from the wall socket, press the case power button for twenty seconds or so to get rid of any residual charge in the system, take anti static precautions before touching anything inside, you can do this by touching a bare metal part of the case or PSU or if a notebook by touching a household radiator or associated copper feed pipe.

Have a pencil and notepad to hand.

Remove the CMOS battery

Remove each stick of RAM and blow out the memory slots.

Insert the first stick of RAM in memory slot A2 which is the second slot away from the CPU, put the CMOS battery back in, reconnect the power and in the case of a desktop computer the video to screen cable and the keyboard.

Power up the computer and see how it goes.

Make a note of the results.

Repeat the procedure until the first stick of RAM has been tested in each memory slot and the results written down.

Remove the first stick of RAM and put it to one side on top of a piece of paper with the number one on it for identification purposes.

Repeat the procedure with all RAM until each stick has been tested in all slots, the results written down and the sticks identified numerically.

Hey, happy new year!

I have followed all the instructions and unfortunately didn’t get any different results from what I was having…

The orange led instantly pops up after turning the PC on every try, and no signal at all on the monitor (just to mention that I had three things connected to my computer only, display cable, keyboard and power cable). I allowed 2 minutes after turning it on to see what could happen on each try but I just got all the coolers up and running and the orange led.

Thanks for the help though, hopefully you got other ideas on what it could be.

Computer issues aside a Happy New Year to yourself from PCHF;

One stick at a time should be okay but just so that you know the choice of RAM from the outset has not been correct, the maximum speed that your CPU supports is 2933 MT/s so at some point you were going to get issues.

Without a stick of compatible RAM to swap in we are pretty limited as to what we can suggest, I would recommend that you get yourself a BIOS error speaker for the MB, see the attachment below;

Oh I see, so the problem might actually be the ram.

I just bought one of the Bios speaker from Amazon and it will arrive on friday, as soon at it arrives I bring you updates.

Thank you!

It could be but it could be the MBs memory slots or the CPUs memory controller, but, the only diagnostic light you mentions is the RAMs + the RAM was not the ideal choice for the CPU so there is a chance that it is the RAM.

Suggestion for you, while you wait for the speaker to arrive, follow the same safety measures as in my reply #2, remove any/all RAM from the MB, connect the screen, keyboard and power cord and then power up, does the behaviour of the RAM diagnostic LED change at all.

Hey, I hope you’re alright.

So, I tried it with any ram on the slots and nothing different, same steady orange light and no signal.

The Bios speaker arrived and I tried it on, but no beeps come out at all. First I thought it was me who placed it in the wrong spot on in the wrong way but after looking at the manual for the mobo and some research, there’s no way it could be wrong, it just wasn’t beeping. So because of that I tried the other one I bought just in case the first one was fault, but still no beeps.

I take it that you mean without any RAM in the slots.

Where on the MB did you attach the speaker.

Tried the other one of what.

That’s what i meant, i tried it without any ram, and nothing different.

I attached it on the speaker pins on the bottom left of the MB. And I tried another bios speaker, because I bought two just in case the first one I tried would be faulty

Tis bottom left, see the attachment below;

Try removing the RAM altogether and then powering up with no RAM in the board, do you get any error beeps.

The above test is with the keyboard and screen attached to the GPU.

On a fully working MB you normally hear two or three beeps with no RAM in the board, one beep is what you hear when a board passes the power on self test, this is strange to say the least.

Had a long day so going offline now, will leave you with the info here meanwhile nd will check back am UK time tomorrow.

Hey, so after some more testing I realised that the beep it was making wasn't actually from the speaker, it was from the GPU I think, more like a powering on noise instead of a beep. So yeah, no noise coming out from the speaker connected on that place you mentioned.

Glad to see that it was the same place I was testing on before I mentioned that no beeps were coming out.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Hey, just did it but still got the steady orange light.

I really thought that would solve everything for some reason.

I saw that someone in my house connected my computer to an extension lead which was connected to another extension lead 🤦‍♂️.

There's only one wall socket in my room, so i plugged the computer only just to see if the light would still be there meaning there's a problem. Tomorrow morning I'll plug my monitor into another socket and test with the computer to see if it gives signal.
