I keep getting a random solid grey or black screen when playing any sort of video game. This can happen anywhere from a few minutes into a game to hours of play before this happens. I have updated the drivers for the nVidia card I have, the intel chipset and ACPI drivers. There is nothing in the event viewer that I can pinpoint BEFORE the issue, only afterwards. Not sure where the issue is or what's causing it.

I have run memtest. Everything checks out fine there. I have gotten child object errors previously so I have updated the chipset and ACPI drivers. After the hard restart, I will see several crit alerts and errors in viewer, most likely due to the hard reboot. Not sure how to go about isolating the issue(s) and trying to correct them. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Let's get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

Please list your power supply unit (manufacturer and model)
 
Also, my PSU is PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 EPS12V 750W EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
 
There are a lot of things happening:


First, you're still running Windows 7, a lot of developers don't support that edition anymore.

Second, your PSU is rated as a tier-c by our standards, something that you should avoid.

Third, Windows was installed in 2016, there's bound to be a lot of junk loaded up on the system at this point, that's just what 7 years does to a PC.


I'll have another look later, but these are the things that have caught my eye right away.

The original version was released way back in 2007, how old is that thing that you have.

I can understand a lot of what you are saying. I have had no issues running games for a long time with the same rig. Yes, it's old as hell. I do have a Corsair 1000 watt in storage that I could upgrade to and was planning on getting Win 10 or 11 since I know that several programs are no longer supported with Win7. I just have not have the funds or time to do so until now.

Back when I bought and built this, I wasn't aware of PSU ratings and only went off user ratings and costs.
 
The PSU was junk when new and should have been tossed straight in the trash, even the newer versions are rated as – Tier E • Avoid

Being that the OP is receiving help with this elsewhere and it is apparent that the PSU needs to be replaced asap this thread will be closed.
