Hi,
I have no idea where to post this sorry tell me if I should ask somewhere else.
I have 2 monitors and one of them is quite old (from around 2007) and today it stopped working and just displayed the "out of range" logo. I've tried to follow some straight forward advices on google like going into safe mode and uninstalling the device and reinstalling, it worked but when i plug back on my main monitor it just makes my old one display a black screen and go back to the out of range situation. I even tried staying a bit only on my old monitor after the safe mode actions but after some time it just stops working and display the out of range. I've tried looking for older drivers for pnp generic monitor but nothing helps.
Does anyone have an idea of my problem ? Tell me if I should give you more information on my devices, i'm pretty new to all this...
Thanks to anyone who would be willing to help.

The GPU or PSU could be failing or worse case scenario the both of them.

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

"out of range" usually pops up when the screens resolution is set to higher than the screen can handle.

is the good monitor the LG unit?
it's set to resolution of 1920x1080.
what cable and video ports are used, both on the screen end and the PC end? (HDMI, DP, DVI, VGA)

what is make/model of old 2007 monitor?
and do you know what resolution it is set at?
and what cable and video ports are used for this one, on both ends?

when you are in Safe Mode, did you try changing the resolution of the old monitor?

so the two screens were working fine for ages, and the old screen suddenly went pear shaped after what - new software, new hardware, Windows updates?

and to confirm - PC works fine when only LG monitor connected, but plug in old and the old one says "out of range"?
and the old monitor by itself works but eventually goes to "out of range"?
even in Safe Mode???

yes the good monitor is the lg unit, its cable is hdmi. For the old one i have an adaptater converter HD to VGA.
here are some informations about my monitors.
LCD_VGA (display 2) : connected to NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
desktop resolution 1024x768
active signal resolution 1920x1080
refresh rate 60.000 Hz
8-bit
RGB
standard dynamic range (SDR)

My main monitor, more recent :
LG IPS FULLHD (display1)
desktop res 1920x1920
active signal res 1920x1920
60.000Hz
8-bit
RGB
standard dynamic range (SDR)

In safe mode i tried changing the resolution but there were only 2 propositions and they both looked pretty bad. The 2 screens have been working perfectly for ages and the old one (the out of range one) just stopped working suddenly after nothing specific (i didn't update anything or change anything). Pc works fine with only my main monitor, and when i plug in the old one it just says out of range. I tried it again and plugging it in made my pc go crazy, like both screen going black and the central unit making huge noise (it happened only on this occation).
When in safe mode (while i have unplugged my main monitor cause apparently i had to have only 1 monitor plugged during this manipulation) my old monitor works fine.
the old monitor does not go out of range in safe mode apparently.
I hope I gave you what you were asking for, i'm pretty lost. Thanks for taking time for me.

Sorry i just retested it, when my pc is turned on with just my main monitor it works fine, but actually when i plug the out of range one both screen turn black and i have to manually turn off the pc. If i turn on my pc with both monitors plugged in then the main one works fine while the old one displays the out of range. Should I try to plug my main monitor in while i'm in safe mode on my old monitor ?

Really sorry for the spam I tried editing the last message but took too long.
I've also remembered that I switched both monitors entry cable (on the central unit) a few days ago so that the welcome screen when turning on the pc would be on my main monitor. Then the last few days I experienced some problems with the old monitor. It would sometimes stay black when I turned on my pc. What I did to fix this (about 2 or 3 times total) was to unplug and plug its alimentation, it fixed the problem these few times. Now that i think about it maybe i just messed it up doing that...
*** I know i'm not clear and my informations are a mess i'm sorry about that.

to make things easy, let's call one monitor the Good Monitor and the out of range one the Bad Monitor.

so the bad one WAS the primary (1st) display unit and you swapped the cables???

either way, put everything back the way you had it, to get it all working again.
then change the bad monitors resolution to something low, like 800x600, then do your swap thingy again, then change it's resolution.
as the error says, when you did your change over, the bad monitor was then getting a higher resolution (from the settings for the good monitor) and couldn't handle it. (assuming I have that all the right way around - it's gotten confusing rather quickly) :)

At first the bad monitor was the 2nd display unit, but quite some time ago when I was cleaning my pc I switched both cables inadvertently and it became the 1st display unit. I didn't pay much attention to it cause it didn't change anything once the pc was on. It's only a few days ago that i decided to switch it back to have it as it was at first (2nd display).
So i put everything back the way it was before the problem occured (bad monitor as 1st) and changed its resolution to 800*600, then switched the plugs again to put it 2nd but nothing changed. Did I miss something ? should i keep the pc on while switching ?

Still waiting on the PSU information but fwiw, you have bigger issues going on that may well explain your screen problem/s.
