File Explorer opens as a small icon just above the task bar and remains there. It does not open up full screen.

I cannot access any of my files. This has happened in the past very briefly and a restart has cleared it. That does not seem to be the case at the moment.

All other task bar icons open to full screen immediately, such as Excel, Word, Notebook and so on. If anyone has any advice I would very much like to hear it. Many thanks.

how are you opening File Explorer?
from a desktop shortcut, from the Start Menu or somewhere else?

have you tried the keyboard shortcut of Windows + E.
if it only starts in part of the screen, have you tried double clicking in the title bar to maximise it?

Hello Bruce,

There is an icon on the task bar, I double click it and usually it opens FE full screen and off I go. At the moment it opens a thumbnail and anything I do with that fails to open it any further.

I have just tried your suggestion Windows + E and the same thing happens. I have also tried from the start menu (above the Windows icon, far left on the task bar) and the same thing happens.

I have taken a few photos but cannot work out how to post them here. Normally I would download them to FE and then upload them to gmail.

The screen shot on the left shows you what I achieve. (The right section is an nuisance!)

Yes, if you click on the image it will open up.

That is what I achieve. The FE does not open up to the full screen. I have watched a video on 12 ways to open FE and all of them work but only as far as offering that thumbnail image just above the task bar.

Situation resolved. I came across a similar case and this was the answer provided and it has worked:

'Perhaps it is displaying off screen. Hold shift and right click the open explorer icon on the taskbar. Choose move, and the use the cursor keys on the keyboard. Once 'selected' by the cursor the move will also move it if after selecting move and pressing a cursor key you then move the mouse.'

That looks like what you see when you hover the mouse over the File explorer icon then on the popup of the open file. If you open task manager is there any File open?
