Extremely slow wifi lately

I have a (wifi adapter?) the thing that goes into your pc when your motherboard doesnt have wifi. It is a tplink archer t5e. I used to get decent wifi speeds, but lately it has dropped down to around 100kbps which is a major issue for me. Ive even completely restarted my computer clean and it is still slow. I bought powerline adapters but they have not arrived yet and im still unsure whether i have everything i need for them to work in my house. I just want someone to help me speed up my wifi if at all possible. One cause could be the amount of traffic in my house since i have so many people and devices on the router. The router is an intel(r) Dule Band Wireless which is 5 ghz
 
what is the make/model of the wireless router everyone is connecting to?

quick test of your theory would be to reboot the wireless router, which would drop everyone off, and try your speeds as soon as you reconnect.
or to go to the next level, change the wireless password, and while only you connect, test your speeds.

in your browser, go to speedtest.net and see what download and upload speeds you are getting.

If what Bruce states does not help lets also get a speccy report from the affected system plus some other information.

With the tplink attached and running.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

One cause could be the amount of traffic in my house since i have so many people and devices on the router.

Are they experiencing any issues like you at any time?

How may what one considers several other consider a few.

Wired and wireless?

The router is an intel(r) Dule Band Wireless which is 5 ghz

Can you post the make and model?

Distance from the router and what barriers are there.

The 5 Ghz is not the best and or strongest signal for such.

Have you tried connection to 2.4 Ghz?
 
im not entierly sure how to check the make and model but it says AC 7265 after the router in device manager. physically on the router im not sure what is and isnt the make and model because none of them say make or model and i dont wanna give any information i shouldnt.

it is around 8 people and many many more devices, everyone is wireless. Yes they experience the same issues on this side of the house but people only a few feet away from the router do not experience the issue(obviously?)

Im still unsure of the make and model. im around ~50-60 feet from the router. There are 3 maybe 4 walls in the way. I have tried both and neither of them gave me a reliable speed both being under 1 mbps.


If there is anyway you can private this conversation do so since the speccy shows very private information

somewhere on the router will be a brand name, like Netgear, or TP-Link (something like that).
on a sticker (usually underneath) will be details like default IP address, default wireless network name and password, as well as the units MAC address.
this is probably where you will find the model number - something like TP-Link TL-MR6400.
 
intel, spectrum, or charter communications is the brand name. only one of those is a brand name for routers i assume but you know better than I

We will never ask and or request any information that will provide personal information. We fully understand and respect that as well. Which is why we ask for the URL of the Speccy and not the text.

As I have stated before in previous post this may be the reason that you are having issues with.


5 GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects such as walls nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals. This can limit an access points reach inside buildings like homes and offices where many walls may come between a wireless antenna and the user.

So the powerline adapters will help with this.

There are some things that I can suggest that may help with just need to go through the speccy and see what we have. Plus bear with me at work so may be a while.

i do not know if they are on 5 ghz or not, they have tons of phones, xboxs, and a vr headset so i have no idea

Do not worry about it.

That is not a router that is a card that allows you system to use the WIFI signal that a router and or Gateway (AKA Modem) transmits.

Showing that this is installed according to the system that the speccy report came from.

AC 7265 after the router in device manager.

Plus, device manager only shows the hardware installed in the system.

Now outside of distance and barriers (walls and such) there are other things that can affect the WiFI signal.

Other WiFi signals that are stronger and transmitted on the same channel that you are currently using.

Microwaves
Misconfigured Networks
Running WiFi signals on both Router and Modems.

When was the last time the modem and router we rebooted?

Again, no worries about not knowing we all have started somewhere.

I bought powerline adapters but they have not arrived yet and im still unsure whether i have everything i need for them to work in my house.

Like I stated before will help @PeterOz and @Bruce whom I believe have better experience setting more up that I have.
 
i have just asked someone else in the house and apparently we have little google "pods" all through the house that act as routers to extend wifi and such which i have no idea how to reboot, the modem has been rebooted though(the intel AC-7265) recently.
 
stepping back a bit, is this your network, that is, only you have the login password to the modem/router?

and to stop confusion, that little square thing you are calling a router, let's start calling it your wireless adapter (which lives inside your PC).
that adapter, in turn, talks (wirelessly) to your internet connection, which is either a modem which has inbuilt wireless access, or to a router (for wireless) which then connects to that modem.

so as PeterOz says, there will be a box or two in the house that either physically connects to the outside world or wirelessly connects you to the internet.

have you done speedtest.net yet?
