Hello, I'm having a problem with my computer, I hope someone can help me.

A month ago I installed windows 10 on a new drive (previously I had win7). Yesterday, I was trying to organize my files on the external hard-drives, but they keep disconnecting from the computer.

I tried 3 different HDD, all usb ports and they still disconnect after some minutes (the time that they stay connected is not always the same).
The HDD work fine on the laptop, which is a windows 8. And they always worked fine on windows 7 too.

I tried these fixings:
-Turn off USB power saving
-Disable the default boot process (there's no option for "write caching on this device")
-Check and repair hard drive errors (I had to do this one on the laptop, because the HDD didn't stay connected long enough)

I'm connecting the HDD's with "usb to IDE/SATA adapter cable".
I tried connecting the following HDD:
-Western Digital 1TB SATA III 64MB Blue RPM 7200 WD Blue PC HDD 3.5"
-Samsung 500GB model:HD501LJ

I have a desktop, these are my specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 (3.2GHz) Socket 1150
Motherboard: Asus B85M-G
GPU: MSI GTX750 Ti TwinFrozr OC 2GB DDR5
Ram: G.Skill Kit 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Ripjaws CL9 2x4GB
Power: XFX Pro 450W Core Edition
HDD: Western Digital 1TB SATA III 64MB Blue RPM 7200 WD Blue PC HDD 3.5"

Thank you for reading.

Are you using the same cord to connect all of the drives to your computer?

Do you have another cord you could test with?

Outlet as in USB port?

When the disk disconnects, does it disappear in Disk Management as well?

I don't have another cord to test.

I meant outlet as in power outlet, on the wall. To plug the charger (power source for the external disk).

Yes, it also disconnects form disk manager.
If your external hard drive keeps disconnecting, then possibly it is because of the power-saving feature. There is a USB selective suspend feature in Windows that turns off USB devices after a while to save power. This feature is designed to prevent your computer from using unnecessary power.
I already turned that off, under power options.

Does this external HDD have an external power source?
Yes it does.

Thank you all for the help, I will just continue to backup the files using the laptop and forget about connecting it to the desktop.
