So iv had this issue for about 2 months now and after buying a new 1000w PSU, reinstalling windows 10 2 times, uninstalling (with DDR) and reinstalling several different NVIDIA Drivers, factory resetting my mother board i can not stop dwm.exe from crashing
this thing in i can not replicate the crash, i could be watching a video and BAM my screens go black, video card fans rev up to 100%, can still hear audio but the screens will not turn back on until i do a hard shut off. i could be playing a video game for 4-5 hrs and it not crash at all for days.

the event viewer error is shows this.
this last DWM.exe crash showed that DWM.exe crashed 9 times at the same time

my specs are
intel core i7 8700
Mother board: ASrock z370 Pro 4
DDR4 8x4 (32 GB ram) (oldest parts what I'm thinking of changing next)
Nvidia Geforce PNY 3080

I am desperate for help, i have tried toms hardware, microsoft, reddit, ANYPLACE i can find and not ONE person seems to know what the issue is please im begging for a solution besides buy a new computer
 
Those errors point towards Windows;

Three things for you to do;

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.


Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply

Post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Will be happy to look at the results of the above and provide you with any feedback but long term we do not help while people are being helped on other forums, we cannot be held responsible for any possible mishaps that way.

No worries about your Speccy report for now, will post feedback regarding your MTB log first and look at your Speccy report later, got a previous appointment so will be missing for an hour or so.

Your MTB log is telling us that Windows is badly broken and that you have a few important drivers missing, both of these explain why you have no crash dmps.

I note that Windows 10 was installed only last month, can I ask what Windows media ** was used to install it and once Windows had been installed did you then install the system drivers, see my canned info below;

** A downloaded ISO from Microsoft or an in place upgrade etc.

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the chipset drivers, then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the hardware manufacturer or downloaded and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

Will check back asap.
 
I used a windows 10 home edition USB install stick which auto Downloaded the latest Windows 10 updates after it was done installing from the usb stick.
I also turned off the windows 10 auto Hardware update driver because for some reason windows 10 keep trying to over write the official NVIDIA drivers with an older (im talking like right when the card was released) version of the GPU drivers.

And im not sure where to install my drivers for my mother board or at least the once that the error log has shown missing, the brand website is not very clear on what to download
 
And also iv never really installed or updated any driver (except the GPU) because ether windows 10 did it for me or i just never tried to because i don't really know where to look, what to download.

At this point I would try a Windows Refresh, this will reinstall just Windows but allow you to keep your personal data, have used this option in the past and recall having to reinstall Chrome so you may likewise may need to reinstall an app or two, see Refresh info here

If a Refresh does not work you are looking at having to clean install Windows 10 and the drivers for the MB.

Curious to know why the data on both of your SSDs is exFAT and you have Windows installed on a mechanical HDD as opposed to a much faster SSD.
 
I appreciate your help i will do the system rest now and post back what happens
also i really don't know why i keep my win 10 on a HDD instead of just moving it onto one of my SSDs i think i just feel like windows maybe would have less issues/slowdows if it was on it's own dedicated drive and i only own 2 SSDs, maybe if i had a 3rd i would put it on that.

exFAT is meant to be used for SD cards and USB flashdrives, not HDDs or SSDs and without losing data on the drives you cannot change the format, this will not be helping Windows at all either.

Check for and install any Windows updates then see how things go.
 
Alright will do, I'm not sure if I'm meant to close this thread now or not? if the problem persists even after a full Clean boot would i just make a new thread or just re post in this one?

So it still crashed
like i said the both of my monitors will lose signal, GPU will go to 100%, can still here the background sounds, only way to fix it is to hard reset my pc

I used a windows 10 home edition USB install stick

From where did you obtain this and likewise any Microsoft Windows 10 product key.
 
That is extremely odd as i HAD to put in the windows 10 product key that came with the box and it says that it is activated (see pic)
ill reactivate it if that will fix that by re typeing the key
and i got it from Newegg

That is odd - has the product key only ever been used on this computer and with the same motherboard, if the answer to either is "no" that would explain the error. thread post on the MS support site here regarding the same issue.
 
Yes this key was used the last 2 times i reinstalled (now 3) windows 10 since iv been having this error both times asked for that product key that i put in at the start. i went a head and clicked on "Change product key" and re entered in the key and it said that windows was now active so im very confused as to why windows is so unstable, with DWM.exe now it not recognizing it being an active product

i guess if i did a complete format wipe on all my drives (would let me move windows 10 one of my SSDs) and reinstalled windows again that might fix something but that seems like a shotgun fix and i REALLY want to know what exactly is doing this
