I have hp laptop with 512GB SSD , while I'm trying to cut all files and folders in "Documents" folder to "D drive" and before paste the cutted files , my laptop stuck ,then I forced my laptop to turn off. After I turned on the laptop "Documents" folder disappeared.
tried to :
- show hidden files , uncheck hide protected operating system files , go to run ( “%userprofile%Documents”) and search for a specific files which were found in Documents folder but in vain
- tried to restore system but I couldn't .
- uninstalled last windows updates ( from : Recover--->Advanced startup), nothing changes
- installed new kaspersky total security and full scan my PC but no viruses were detected.

I don't know whether my PC infected or what is the problem??

Any advice would be appreciated

If anybody has a good recovery software and shortcut removal software

Thanks in advance

just to state the obvious...
have you checked the new location on D:\ drive that you were trying to copy them to?
and the old location of C:\users\<your account>\documents ?
what about the recycle bin?

if not in those locations, try searching the entire C: and D: drives for a file you know was there.

also try rebooting the PC into Safe Mode and checking the Document folder.

otherwise you could try a recovery program called Recuva by Piriform, but from the outset, I'd be saying your chances are slim.

Try using Free version of Agent ransack to find files. Click on me
Leson learnt the hard way.

This is why we always copy and paste.
If something goes wrong your files are safe.
The other method is to just move the default location of doc/pics/videos etc and let windows take care of it.
  1. Right-click My Documents (on the desktop), and then click Properties.
  2. In the Target box, type the new path to the My Documents folder, or click Move to browse to the folder and if needed, create a new My Documents folder. If the path you type does not exist, you are prompted to confirm that you want to create a new folder.
  3. Click Yes to move files from the old My Documents location to the new location, or click No if you do not want to move these files. Note that if you click No, the files in the old location are not deleted, but they are no longer visible from My Documents after the change.
