How do you change the DNS server for your isp/modem/ router.

I know I can do it through my PC/ laptop but that doesn't change the whole house, just that conputer, "if" it works at all

Thank you

It helps if you post the brand and exact model of your router.

Did you purchase the unit or is it rented from your ISP? If it is rented, chances are you won't be able to do much with the settings.

Sorry,

It's a Cox Panoramic TG1682
I had one of their techs tell me I could and the online staff saying I couldn't..

It is rented. Im in CT and it's going to New York which is like 100+ miles away and yet there is a "server" in Springfield mass which is less then 10 miles away. Doesn't make any sense to me. They have it available. The tech showed me when he was here installing everything.

Just because it is closer does not mean that it is faster not and the one that you are routed to does not have much traffic on it and the one that is closer is on or near capacity.

I have had it tested. The one closer to me is near double the speed available.. the Cox internet tech showed me. But he wasn't allowed to change it.

Can you upload a few pics of your router settings? Perhaps you are missing the option to save

Call Cox and find out if it is locked. (I only know one person with a Gateway and it is on Comcast, the only cable supplier in my area).
If it is locked, then go to each computer and change it on the computer.
