I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5559 laptop
It comes with 8GB of RAM memory
There are 2 memory units of 4GB, this is how they look:

I want to upgrade it to 16GB RAM

I purchased 2 units of 8GB of Samsung (PC3):

When I connect them to the computer - there is a black screen

I tried to purchase 2 other Samsung units (PC3L):

- also have a black screen

I checked RAMExpert software and other websites and software and it says in all of them that my computer supports upgrading to 8GB

Attached are pictures of the old memory unit and the 2 new units (different types, PC3 and PC3L) and a screenshot from the RAMExpert software

Anyone have an idea why this is happening? what can be done?

Did you ensure the new memory has the same clock speed etc? You need to check with the crucial site in order to find the correct upgrade.

Have you connected just one of the new RAM sticks to see if it boots? If it does then remove this & try the other stick- one may be faulty.

Then you’ll need to either continue using the original RAM or purchase from Crucial to obtain the correct RAM.
Hopefully you can return the new RAM you have for a refund.
