I have two dell e7740 laptops. The docking station is a Dell E-Port K07A Docking Station. One laptop works fine and as expected. The other when docked does not receive power from the dock, the eject button blinks and laptop will not work/display. All functions appear to work fine when power and usb are connected not utilizing the docking station. Your thoughts ? Thanks

are both laptops the same version?
check the Service Tag or sticker on the underside.
Yes, both are dell e7440 laptops, windows 10. It almost looks like laptop#2 is unable to get the power from the power supply connected to the dock. I even tried connecting the power supply directly to the laptop, then docking - NG Laptop#1 connects and works fine.

and were they both purchased together?

for one to work and the other not to work, there must be a difference - either physically as in a bent pin in the docking slot in the laptop, or the software of the two, like the BIOS, or Windows builds (admittedly, unlikely though).

The machines were not purchased together, one was provided by work, the other i just purchased. I agree there must be a difference with one not working. Both even had the same bios version. I even attempted to clean the contacts on the laptop side with contact cleaner - N/G. Updated BIOS N/G

since they were not purchased together, and in fact sounds like maybe quite a bit of time between them, I'm thinking they are different versions.
yes, both Dell, yes both e7740's but unless they were ordered very close together, my guess is Dell could have made a tweak and released the same 7740 model but with a new version number.

usually on the underside sticker, there will be all the product info, compare the two and look for differences.
