My thread title pretty much spells out my problem

The details:

Toshiba Satellite C855 laptop
Windows 8.2
Computer died
Kept a ton of information on the desktop
Bought a new computer w/windows 11
Took out the old hard drive from dead laptop
Using an interface cable, am able to access all the data stored on the hard drive - EXCEPT the informtion on the desktop and side files

Are they accessible some how? I find nothing about that information while checking through all the files on the hard drive

Kinda desperate here :(

What specifically are you looking for?

open whatever drive letter it is
then Users
the username (the one you logged in as)
then go through the directories

Programs will have to be reinstalled sine they scatter information everywhere and input keys in the registry.

Thanks. I've tried that, but under my name and under "users", it just shows empty file...same with adminstrator, etc.

I've come to the conclusion that it's probably gone forever and from now on, when I save stuff on desktop for convenience - I'm going to back it up

But again, I appreciate your responding to my request (y)

If you know a name of a file, you can perform a search for it.

There should be a directory called desktop under the username

when I save stuff on desktop for convenience - I'm going to back it up
Use an External drive and maybe more than one copy should something happen to that one.
