A couple of days ago my dog jabbed the screen of my ASUS with her paw whilst i was out of the room. On my return the screen was black and I couldn't coax the laptop into life. Unplugged it for an hour and tried again. The screen showed a cracked image radiating from the punture point where the dog jabbed the screen.

My question is this...replace the screen if possible or can I purchase a budget-priced monitor to plug in.??

Quickest and easiest option would be to get yourself an external HDMI screen and hook that up to the notebook.

Replacing the screen will involve the cost of the screen + fitting charges which will not be cheap.

Okay, thanks for the quick response. Excuse my ignorance but I'm not very computer savvy. Will that just involve plugging in and then just operating the laptop in the normal way, with the damaged screen open?
 
With both devices turned off, connect the external screen to the notebook then press the power on button on both devices.

If the second screen does not display anything you will need to press one or two keys on the notebook down at the same time, Fn + F8 is a common ASUS combination but yours may differ, Fn is to the bottom left on the first row of keys and the other key that you want will have a picture of a monitor (a square) etched on to it, some example info here
