I have had this computer for about 5 months now, I custom built it. When I first got it, It could run games smoothly with 100+ frames at close to max settings, but now, I play with low settings, and still barely manage to get 60 frames. I did a fresh install of windows yesterday, but it didn't fix the problem. What should I do?

Computer parts:

Cpu - Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor

Motherboard - ASRock - B150M Pro4S Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory - Patriot - Viper 4 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory
Storage - SanDisk - SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card - PowerColor - Radeon RX 470 4GB Red Dragon Video Card
Case - Deepcool - TESSERACT BF ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply - Corsair - CXM (2015) 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
 
Welcome to PCHF Crow,

After reinstalling Windows yesterday did you reinstall the drivers for the MB and starting with the chipset drivers first.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Some really high temps reported in Speccy, need to go offline shortly as its getting late here and have an early start, see if you can do the following for us before I go;

Please take expanded screenshots and only use the method below to attach them.

Download Speedfan from here and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows. The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.

If you are running on a vista machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.

Download then run HWMonitor and post a screenshot so that we have a comparison to the Speedfan results, details from here


To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... Click on the More Reply Options tab then after typing in any response you have... click on Choose File...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on Attach This File...on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.
 
Sorry but that is not the HWMonitor info that we need, see example attachment below;

Speedfan shows GPU temps and CPU usage.

Looks like your RAM** could be getting too much voltage, if you look at the HWMonitor results you will see VIN1 up to VIN7, two of these seven VIN numbers are for the two slots that your RAM is populating, none of the VIN numbers are reading 1.2 the voltage at which you RAM should be running, this will cause stability/overheating issues.

** Are you aware that the maximum speed of RAM for both your MB and CPU is 2400MHz and not the 2666MHz that you have.

For the best and most stable performance you should where possible purchase a CPU and RAM that have been tested and approved by the motherboard manufacturer, this is referred to as the QVL ( qualified vendors list ) understand though that there are too many products released for them all to be tested so other hardware will be compatible but not proven to be.

Your GPU is also shown to be running hot when not under any load.

Have you ever overclocked this system.
 
I have never overclocked my computer. Is there anything else I can do other than buying a new CPU and RAM? I'm a little short on money right now.
 
It has not been suggested that you need a new CPU or RAM only making you aware that the RAM should not have been purchased to go with the MB and CPU and that for some reason your RAM could be getting too much voltage, the RAM being 2666MHz could be causing the upset because the BIOS does not know how many volts it should be set at, not saying this with 100% certainty just mentioning that it could be possible.

Not according to your Speccy report which say that you have a Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B250M-D3H-CF (U3E1)

Would suggest that you go into the BIOS and select the Load Optimized Defaults, if you do not know how it tells you in the MBs user manual which you can download from the link above, once done, test then post back with an update for us.
 
Not much change but the video card temps have gone up which is odd as you are well below the maximum 120 watts for the card.

See how things go for a while then get back to us with an update, can you meanwhile uninstall any of the programs that we have installed that you do not wish to keep, got two more we may need to use should the problem persist which I`m sorry to say I suspect it will.
 
Download and then run HWiNFO, click on the memory tab, grab a screenshot and attach it to your next reply for us, if still the same high voltage you either have a bad MB or PSU.
 
Nothing unusual there, did you tick the sensor option as we can only see the summary.

You never answered the above so can you get back to us on this.

Nothing showing there either other than what we already knew, your MB has perfectly good monitoring software, would suggest that you check your CPU and RAM readings using that, one final test for you that will stress test the CPU, GPU and PSU, Valley Benchmark (free) which you can download from here

The next thing to consider is removing the add on video card from the MB and trying the onboard graphics to see if the problem is the same.
