So...

While browsing, a fair number of pages on Chrome refuse to load. They look as though they're halfway there, but cut off and freeze for a couple seconds before displaying the following error: "Aw, Snap!" Then in smaller text, "Something went wrong while displaying this webpage."

Steam does something similar in that it refuses to display certain pages with pretty much the exact same result, it half loads, freezes, and then displays the following: "Oops." Then in smaller text, "The page you were viewing encountered an error and was terminated. Click here to reload." So far reloading has never helped, and the page will always fail and redirect me towards that error.

So far I've gone to appdata to delete the html folder in steam as well as redownloaded it. As for Chrome, I've deleted all history, the cache, temporary folders, cookies, and tried making a new user to see whether or not my previous user file had been corrupted. Beyond either of these I've run full tests from both Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, have disabled Essentials and my Firewall to see if that was the problem, restarted the computer, cast prayers and voodoo magic over the tower, deleted programs to make space on the computer (I have roughly 300gb, but I just wanted to try doing something), and only got results after deleting all those temporary files, cache, and cookies. Unfortunately said results only lasted for roughly a day before it was back to not behaving.

If anyone can help I'd be ever so grateful...

No, I don't believe so... All the scans have come through clean, nothing seems to be taking up gratuitous amounts of CPU, and I'm not seeing any unknown files or the like. Hello, by the by.

@Jelly Bean
Would you believe that's one of the pages that doesn't load? The Aw, Snap error attempts to lead me there, and it simply half loads then fails for another Aw, Snap error.

@gus
I've tested with IE, and it's definitely a lot more reliable, but far, far slower.

I believe updating was one of the steps I took, but I'll go do it again right now just to be sure

Edit: I'm up to date

That... Seems to have done it, actually. I'm loading all the pages I couldn't before, so all seems well on that end.

I'll mark this as resolved and if the issue resurfaces I'll see about the security folk poking around the PC

Thank you everyone, you've all been absolutely wonderful~
