  • Hello everyone We want to personally apologize to everyone for the downtime that we've experienced. We are working to get everything back up as quickly as possible. Due to the issues we've had, your password will need to be reset. Please click the button that says "Forgot Your Password" and change it. We are working to have things back to normal. Emails are fixed and should now send properly. Thank you all for your patience. Thanks, PCHF Management

First reset it so the default username and password works again. There should be a reset hole that you push in with a paperclip on the back.

If you state the exact model we can find the manual.

It is Netgear VMDG 280.
I have read that after reset all other defaults have to be done as well, including SSID.
Please let me have full details how do so.
Thank you.

What is the error message that you get when you access the router through a computer?
How are you attempting to access the router and wired or wireless?

Using Avast AV.
Device not configured correctly.
Weak wireless network security. These messages come up whenever I run Smatscan on Avast.
Virgin Media Broadband with Netgear.
Edimax Card attached to PC.

Many thanks for all replies.
I have never done this before, and it is not something I can practise on.
I am concerned of the security risks, getting it wrong.
It would be very helpful if I could get a step by step procedure, please.
Thank you.

Sorry, I am late getting back.
I am a bit unsure of by the terms used. The reason is that when the technician set up the PC he gave me a 26 numbers/letters combination which I believe he said was the 'Key', and I do not know if, or where in the default settings that 26 numbers/letters should go.
Thank you

That should be already programed into your modem if the technician did their job properly.
That 26 alpha numeric is the code (password) that you should be entering into a device that is attempting to access your network wireless.

The device that is requesting the wireless transmission from you network will ask for that password. If you tell that device to remember the password you will not have to type it in again. They are set to do this automatically.

Thank you. I am getting closer. That is what I gave my son when he got his PC.
I have found the Login details on the side of the Router, but they do not work. The technician was well know to me so he probably changed them (long time ago) and he is not available now. I now understand what is SSID.

Tomorrow or later, I will have a studious attempt to reset the Router, because I have read that all the other settings will be altered, so I would prefer to be able to Login.

Hello
I contacted the ISP. As the Router is old they are sending a new one, but did not say how soon.
I just have to wait.
