I've been running a second monitor on my Asus ROG laptop for a while just fine. Recently bought this with no result. When the adapter is plugged in, with both hdmi cables in said adapter, nothing happens at all. In my settings, my laptop doesn't detect any external monitors.

yeah, sorry, I've no experience with those adapters.
how it splits USB into HD audio and video over two monitors seems a little black magic voodoo to me. :)
and how it could do Extend mode rather than Duplicate via one USB port for those two monitors is even more questionable.

If you’re using a splitter then it may not be working well or connected fully.
I’ve no experience with multiple monitor so cannot suggest anything further.
