Specs:
Core i5 8400k (LGA 1151)
Rog Strix b250g (lga1151)
Radeon Rx 460 sapphire nitro
2 8gb TridentZ RGB 2400
500w PSU
1tbHDD
Tesseract deep cool case.

I just installed a new processor and motherboard from a corei3 3.8ghz and an Asus b250m when the power supply is on my mother board lights up but on the case the on and off LEDs won't work and non of the power buttons work to turn on my computer. Using the screwdriver trick to start the computer won't work either. Is it something obvious I'm missing or is it a broken part?

First of all, did you ensure all the connections are tight, secure, and correct? One missing connection can render the computer useless

I have made sure numerous times and even had my friend come over and check everything but it still will not turn on. Me and my friend both think it might be the front panel on my computer because the LEDs won't even turn on.
 
It's quite possible you didn't configure the front panel connections correctly.

The front panel cables uses very small adapters and they have to be on the right pins on the MB in order to function. Looking at your manual, you have 10 connections (20 pins) on the very bottom right on the motherboard.

This is the diagram for your motherboard. Exactly what case do you have? Tesseract makes different models and versions of the Deep Cool case, and the wires will differ for the front panel on each one

I did check this a few times but the case I have is
DeepCool Tesseract SW Mid-Tower Case - White
SKU# AB60207, Model# Tesseract WH SW
 
Just to troubleshoot, you've reversed the power cable on the two pins labeled PWR_SW? Meaning you've plugged the cable labeled with it one way, and if it didn't work you reversed it? Basically what you're doing is jumping two pins together, creating a circuit. If the cable is plugged in the wrong way, the circuit can't complete. Looking at the manual, the cable is supposed to connect vertically, but it could very well need to be plugged in to the PWRBTN# and the GND next to it.

Front panels rarely go bad unless there's a severe power surge, lightning strike, or ESD.

I just tried putting it in vertically and horizontally and even tried with the reset switch but still cant get anything.
 
Hello folks,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Stuart but checking the specs it seems that your MB and CPU are not compatible, the MB supports 6th/7th gen CPUs and yours is the 8th gen.

MB compatible CPUs can be found here I did note that Newegg advise that the board is not compatible with 8th gen CPUs.

Hopefully you will be able to return any incompatible parts.

Question, you say 8400k in your OP, should that be 8600k or possibly just an 8400 without the k.

Just the 8400
 
Reason that I asked is because non k chips cannot be overclocked and therefore do not need a higher spec MB, if keeping the CPU and swapping the board be sure that you only consider the Z370 chipset type.

You are welcome, anything else that we can help you with.

Edit to add: Should you keep the CPU you will also need to swap the RAM as the 8400 only supports DDR4-2666MHz RAM.
