I recently received a Ryzen 9 5900x cpu, and after running the recommended bios update on my Biostar B450mh version 6.3 motherboard I swapped out the cpu yesterday. The computer worked just fine yesterday and today, but then I noticed my headset wasn't showing up as a sound option or in the device manager. I disconnected and reconnected the aux i/o ports and my computer bluescreened. I was able to boot back into the computer but after trying to reconnect this a second time it crashed again. Now when I try to boot into Windows it loads for 30 seconds then goes to a black screen and it unresponsive. I have Ubuntu installed on this computer and am able to boot to Linux, but my headset still doesn't show up in Linux. Can anybody help me get my computer running again, and hopefully get my microphone to connect as well? I'm running out of ideas here.

I was able to get to the troubleshooter. Startup repair wasn't able to fix the issue, but I do have access to the command prompt now.

If we are able to resolve the Windows issue the missing mic problem may get fixed as well.

Do the following one at a time at the Command prompt;

1: Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/"). Press Enter

2: Type sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/"). Press Enter

Post back with any outcome.

After running the first line, it returned the following:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version 10.0.19041.1

Error:50
DISM does not support servicing Windows PE with the /Online option.
The DISM log file can be found at X:\windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

After running the sfc scan, it would load to Verification 100% complete before returning:

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

Go to Fix one - step two onwards here

If those steps don`t correct the error 50 you are looking at having to do a clean install of Windows 10 due to it being corrupted.

I had to do a clean install. The first time I tried to sign in the computer bluescreened, but now I'm signed in. Should I run through the first steps in the command prompt now?

After clean installing Windows the first thing that you need to do is install the chipset drivers for the MB, then the storage device drivers and third any GPU drivers, you must not allow Windows to update first else the wrong drivers will get downloaded and installed which in turn will cause you no end of trouble.

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR most often means that there is a hardware problem but if you didn`t install the drivers as detailed above you may want to go back and do so and see how things go from there, any further BSOD follow the steps below to get us the crash dmps;

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
3. Upload the zip folder using the Attach button, bottom left of the dialogue input box

Thank you so much! I updated all the drivers before the windows updates and the whole startup process feels like normal again. However, I still can't get any headsets or microphones to appear as sound options and they don't show up in the device manager. I do have Realtek audio driver 6.0.9126.1 installed, and my monitors connected over hdmi/displayport still work and are the only sound devices that show.

Well that is good news at least.

Got an early start so going offline shortly but hopefully someone else will chime in.

If not done already, make a new system restore point and then get Windows fully up to date by installing version 21H1.

Will check back tomorrow asap after work UK time.

Thank you so much for all your time so far! I just created a system restore point, I'll update windows now.

I just ran into another BSOD for WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I had two dmp files, the one named 062021-6031-01 was from this most recent crash. I included the other one as well in case it's helpful.

Have looked at the two dmps but before going into any detail can I first of all ask if the crash today was before or after you had updated to Windows 10 version 21H1, if before, the crash dmps are irrelevant I`m afraid, if after just let us know.

We will need to see an up to date version of Windows 10 in Speccy when you are ready.

Sorry for the delay, I've been away from the house for a couple days. Here is a screenshot from Speccy of the latest installation. Hopefully this has the information you're looking for. I updated the latest Windows quality update 21H1 at your request. If you need different information from Speccy let me know!

The first of the two dmp files I'm not sure, but the latter one was after updating. It crashed twice more Sunday, although I haven't been on my PC since then. I attached the two additional dmp files from these later crashes if it helps.

No worries.

Same CPU problem flagged up in both crash dmps.

We need to see if you get any more BSOD before going any further, if you do, when you upload the latest dmps please post a new Speccy url for us to go through.

Thank you! Do you think the BSOD is related to the audio i/o not reading devices, or should I start another thread in a different location for that issue?

You are welcome but can I ask that for the time being that you do not start any new threads, if you would like us to look at any audio issue/s please do the below;

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

(1) Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

(2) Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.
