My computer won't boot up I have tried with different ram no success have tried to disconnect everything till doesnt work . Last time I used it it said to fix HDD errors I never did . It has a Asus sabertooth 990 FX mb with a amd processor win 10 I tried to install a new copy of Windows but doesn't start up.

When you say it "doesn't boot up", do you mean nothing happens or do you mean it is stuck on the BIOS screen or perhaps something else entirely.

The first thing I'd do if nothing happens is to swap out the power supply. Even if a hard drive needs checking, the screen should show something.

If nothing appears on the screen then it could mean a bad video chip/card or bad monito cable.

Please post the brand and exact model of computer so anyone reading can find the hardware specifications and age of the computer. These are both important when anyone tries to troubleshoot.

Looks like a custom build with an ASUS motherboard. The MB specs can be found HERE. Information that might be helpful....

  1. Type of RAM (is it DDR3? and what speed? 1333/1600/1866mhz)
  2. What video card do you have onboard?
  3. Are you trying to OverClock the system?
  4. What Hard drive do you have installed?
  5. Is your Power Supply Unit sized right?
  6. Are the cooling fans running?
You issue could be many things so the more information you provide would be most helpful. :)

By the way, a no boot situation can indicate a failed or failing hard drive. You mentioned drive errors. There drive errors can also indicate PSU issues. :)

Hi harry wollman, Welcome to PCHF! :)

As other members mentioned, we need more information about the troubleshooting steps that you have tried so we can better assist you. Did the computer boot up previously with no issue and all of a sudden will no longer boot or have you put together a new computer build and its not booting up?

Before even pressing the power button on the case to boot the machine, do you see any lights on the motherboard light up?

It took
k 2-3 minutes to boot up the last little while it has ddr3 1333 ATI 6850 corsairs 600 watt PSU and a 1 tb Western digital HDD there r led lights coming on when I power PC

There is a red led light on that says a CPU problem according to manual I can't find anything wrong with CPU I took it apart and reset it

That eliminates a faulty PSU :) Fans spinning and lights on mean your PSU is good. Quck question, did you build this yourself? If so, is the CPU power connector connected to the MB and the CPU fan connector connected too? If either becomes dislodged or disconnected, that will cause failure to boot and overheating and the CPU error you're experiencing.

Ok so that's good that you see activity with the machine. Does the computer make any beeps when the machine is powering on? Do you see the motherboard splash screen on your monitor or does the monitor remain black while the computer turns on? What CPU do you have inserted into your Asus motherboard?

Have you checked your CPU for any bent pins? Have you made sure to clean the CPU and re-apply thermal compound to the chip before putting the heatsink and fan back on it?

Have you tried booting the machine with just one stick of RAM installed? Did you make any changes to the computer before this problem occurred?

Do me a favor and before you remove your CPU, remove your graphics card and make sure the capacitors look good and everything checks out. If you have a spare card, put it in and try it out. If it goes to POST and boots up, you know your graphics card is at fault. If it fails to boot up still, you're looking at a dead CPU or motherboard. Lights and fans spinning indicate the PSU is alive and kicking. Are you certain your CPU power connector is firmly attached to the motherboard? Sometimes it can get dislodged.

When you reseated the CPU did you have to apply any pressure?

You have check to make sure that the Monitor is plugged into the Graphics Card and not the on-board. have you tried it with out the graphics card and using the on-board?

Some motherboards will not power on if the fan for the CPU is not plugged in to the motherboard.

There should be four LEDs on your motherboard. These Post State LEDs help spot hardware problems that occur on boot up. If any of these LEDs are lit it indicates a problem. They can also help narrow the focus in the search for a solution to your issue. :)
