I have just refurbished my brother's old laptop with Vista OS. Reinstalled OS with an SSD hd and drivers from rescue disc.

Everything working spot on over last couple of months.

Been an active old school gamer I have installed a ton of games, with no issues.

But one Rugby game, after installing, is been a bit problematic.

When I click the exe, on the desktop,to begin the game, it mostly starts and plays fine. But sometimes it will cause the PC to blue screen. Just catching message I think it is XML sysdata error?

No other game does this. Plus if I uninstall the game and leave it out, I get no more blue screens

So I feel it must be this Rugby game. Which I think as Securom protection. Maybe that is the cause.

The Obvious question is what this can be and is the game conflicting with my pc.

Other question is if I leave the game in and play it now and again,with the odd blue screen, will it wreck my system?

Anyway any help ,regarding this, would be greatly accepted !

Hello Tinman,

Can you tell us the exact rugby game and whether it was a digital download or installed from disk.

1. Copy any dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump onto the desktop.
2. Select all of them, right-click on one, and click on Send To> New Compressed (zipped) Folder.
3. Upload the zip folder using the More Reply Options tab, Choose File then the Attach This File tab., bottom left of the dialogue input box.

The game is Super Rugby League 2 by Side and Tru Blu

It is installed from disc and from 2005.
I have two box copies, so I have tried both copies, on install, to eliminate any corrupt files, on either copy.

I have installed this game on other laptops, with no such issue. Installed on an old Toshiba with Vista, same laptop, which I turned into Windows 7 and a Windows 8.1 HP laptop. No problems with those laptops.

So I can't understand why. Maybe some conflict with this machine. Which is a Fujitsu Siemens AmiloPI 2515 , running Vista 32 bit and on board Intel graphics.

I will get the mini dumps together, zip them up and send them through.

Right after my Christmas dinner

PS: I have deleted the Securom file and registry keys in the registry. Couldn't delete manually, so I had to use a third party remover.

But the file keeps coming back, in the registry. Not sure if the file should be there, or it should remain.

It won't let you delete the file manually, so you have to use the third party remover. But the file keeps coming back.

Some research says it shouldn't be there ? Maybe this is causing some instability ?

What I suspect is the problem, Microsoft have released security updates that disable the secdrv.sys driver in Vista, 7 and 8/8.1 and that is why you are getting a blue screen, there is a workaround but it can compromise the security of your computer so if at all possible see if you can download the game from the software provider, some info for you here

Still upload any dmps though as I could be wrong.

Yes since re-installing Vista, from the rescue disc, I have obviously done numerous Windows updates. Maybe one of those is the cause?

Regarding security, I believe that my machine and system, may be less secure, as it is on an old Vista OS ?

Having said that though, I only use the machine for old time gaming. I mainly use my Windows 10 tablet, or my Windows 8.1, for downloading, emailing and browsing. But then again, I am well aware of a virus and a malwares unscrupolous ways, of infiltrating your system. Through the back door, so to speak.

So I have been to my C/Windows/Mini dump folder and for some reason there are no mini dump error files. why ? So I am unable to upload the latter. Unless I look at the relevant Windows update conflict, or look at any other possible remedy ?

Hi Tinman,

Aye no more updates for Vista either and only a couple of years left for Windows 7 too, if not connected to the internet on the Vista computer you could use the work around at the link without any worry.

It is possible that crash dmps are not enabled on your computer since they are not by default + you have done a clean install, how to enable them here

So I have enabled the crash dumps and since then I have had another blu screen. So I have attached here the minidump file. For a more detailed look !

I also enabled, succesfully, the secdrv.sys driver too.

As you suspected the cause is the RugbyLeague 2, unfortunately this is not a fixable problem as the driver concerned has intentionally been removed by Microsoft meaning that what would normally be suggested (getting the driver from Windows update) is not an available option :(

If you can live with it the work around you have is your only option I`m afraid.

Thanks a lot mate for your time and help, regarding this issue.
I have an idea on a few more options and workarounds, to try live with this issue.
Just one more question, before this thread closes. The blue screen probably occurs one out of three attempts. If and when it happens, will it eventually damage my system.
So in other words, would it be better and advisable to uninstall and unfortunately live without the game ?

You could leave playing the game for a while just to make sure that it is the cause, it could just be a coincidence that it happens with the rugby game, as for damaging anything, Windows crashing is never a good thing and if you can potentially avoid it best to do so, that said if you have a safe workaround the system should not crash.

Even though it's still in the monitoring and experimental stage, I have tweaked a few things again and got a nice little workaround.
So far, from yesterday and 4-6 attempts at starting the exe, I haven't encountered any blue screens.
Fingers crossed I may have stopped and solved it ?
