Hey, this might have been answered in another thread, but in all my searches I have failed to find an applicable solution.

The issue: when I search for something in the search bar on google chrome I am redirected to bing. I am currently unsure of the cause of this redirection, and any attempts so far to find the cause has failed.

Some details on how it works. The program which causes this seems very tricky. Firstly, it only redirects the first few attempts. I feel like it stops redirecting me at once I start searching for how to remove bing. However, it could just be that the program making this happen has a limited number of redirects hour/session. As can be deduced from the former, the redirection does not happen all the time, but usually at the beginning of a new session after I have been absent for a while (that means even if I open a new window, Google will be the default. Some time seems to laps before it starts redirecting again). I have been unable to identify exactly what causes it, the only consistent patterns I have been able to find is that it stops redirecting after a few searches in chrome, usually on how to remove bing redirect.

As for my attempts: I have already gone to settings> search engines> made sure the search engine is google in default and there is no trace of Bing nor any other search engine. the search engine is also by Google.com, so it is the legit one. I have also run several malware searches with my virus protection program TotalAV which failed to find suspicious programs. I have also tried to disable extensions, but due to the automatic halting of bing redirects, and the fact that it does not come back on before some random time has lapsed, I am unable to see whether removing the extensions actually help. I have tried searching individually for links between the extensions and bing redirect and found nothing.

This problem started on my school laptop, I do not download anything shady as far as I know. I personally feel like this redirection started after I downloaded adope acrobat, however, I downloaded it from their official website and they have statements saying there should be no redirect programs contained.

This issue has become extremely annoying, and the bing searches seem to come at the worst times followed by disappearing act so that I cannot make any attempts at discovering which programs cause the problem. It can even go several days between, and as such, it is not feasible to start deleting one program at a time (especially as I don't have anything other than regular programs I regularly use) only to wait a few days and see whether bing redirect comes back.

I would appreciate all help I can get: and if anyone else has experienced the same issue, how you fixed it.

Best regards,
Oliver

Hello @OliverNOR and welcome to PCHF :)

Please download the FRST 32 bit or FRST 64bit version to suit your operating system. It is important FRST is downloaded to your desktop.

If you are unsure if your operating system is 32 or 64 Bit please go HERE.

Once downloaded right click the FRST desktop icon and select "Run as administrator" from the menu.

If you receive any security warnings, or the User Account Control warning opens at any time whilst using FRST you can safely allow FRST to proceed.
Frst will open with two dialogue boxes, accept the disclaimer.

Accept the default whitelist options,
If the additions.txt options box is not checked please select it.
Then select "Scan"

Frst will take a few minutes to scan your computer, and when finished will produce two log files on your desktop, FRST.txt, and Addition.txt. They will display immediately on the desktop, but can be reopened later as a notepad file.

Thank you for the rapid reply and the warm welcome! here is the text as requested, I hope it sheds some light on the issue.

When I tried to copy-paste the text in the reply I received this message: Oops! We ran into some problems. Please try again later. More error details may be in the browser console.

I have tried to attach the files and hopefully, they will be accessible this way.

You received that message because you triggered one of our firewalls. The attachments worked good :)

I'll analyze your logs and get back to you :)

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.
