Accidentally deleted my OS (another story on itself). Need to get into BIOS but my function keys aren't working (I've tried all the ways to get them restored). Is there a back way into BIOS?
HP wouldn't help...

Hello

I would think you need to re-install the os for your basic drivers before you can do that..

you can only get into BIOS by whatever key it requires, either Esc, Del, F2, F10, sometimes Tab.
with Esc, F2 or F10 being the most common, if I'm ever unsure, as the PC starts, I repeatedly and like there is no tomorrow cycle through hitting those keys.
I reckon Esc is the one for HP's.

F9 should be boot menu and F12 recovery options, so give them a try if the usual suspects don't work, as sometimes on that same screen along the bottom it may say the key required to get into BIOS.

You're right and I've tried every thing under the sun to get the function keys active. Esc gets you to start up and F10 is the BIOS key. I've tried all of this. I just cant believe that there is no other way besides the function keys.

I'm not sure what you mean by brute

I'm saying that I cannot get into BIOS to install an OS...

is F10 really F10 or do you have to hit Fn + F10 for it to be a function keystroke press?
and failing that, try an external USB keyboard - maybe the notebook keyboard is dodgy.

There is an "fn" key that I hit simultaneously with F10. Don't see how I could use external keyboard without any drivers but at this point it's worth a shot...I'll let ya know how that goes...

For HP is ESC and then select F10.

If the USB Keyboard does not work-not likely- there is another indirect way:

As you do not have an Operating System installed, install Windows from a USB or a DVD.
Shut the system down, restart it, and while it starts shut it down again.
You may have to do this a few times until you see the message "Please wait...".

Windows thinks that there is something wrong and will get you into a troubleshooting screen.
Select Advanced and then the UEFI option.
This will restart the system into the BIOS.
