I get scammers day and night. Have filled out the "Don't Call" register. Just had another at 8.15pm.
I lodged a complaint with our Government, ACCC and they are powerless to stop them.
I feel like throwing my landline phone out the window. I can't cut off International calls as I have relations overseas.
Should I buy a caller ID phone?
Any ideas?
 
That's good idea. It at least will show the number that's calling. I generally ignore phone numbers I don't recognize.

You might want to check with your phone company about this service. I recall that my provider had an extra charge for this service even though I had an instrument that was capable of caller ID.

One more thing to think on do not know if and how much it would cost you. What about adding International Calling to your mobile phone?

Plus there is always Skype and several other programs/apps.

I have Skype as you know, but my Father is 95yrs and never owned a computer. That's why I need a land Line.
I Googled my phone provider and they charge AUD$72 extra a year for CID, plus a CID phone which I don't have.
$72 extra a year. They know how to milk the cow.
 
Tell you exactly what I noticed when I subscribed my 2 landlines and 2 mobiles to the so called do not call register, and that was the friggin scam calls increased dramatically. Its futile trying to report them as a lot are overseas based and the rest say they are exempt from the register because they are a charity, or doing market research or some such carp. Others say they are really really sorry and won't do it again, until tomorrow that is. Just another thing the government aren't serious about. Just lip service so we feel all warm and cosy safe..

Exactly, Gus. For my time contacting the ACCC, they instead sent me a little black book entitled, "The little black book of scams"
They needn't have bothered.:mad:
 
Yeh, if governments of all persuasions cant handle the do not call register just wait till real terrorists come a knocking. Some little while ago my wife was getting threatening scam calls on her telstra mobile and I contacted the Police who quite frankly couldn't give a stuff, and told me it was an issue for telstra. Wow they were wonderful, could give her a new phone number, no more no less.

When i get calls from microsoft or windows or anyone who detects problems with my pc I tell them I will turn it on, and they must be right, because it takes ages to boot. It is most strange because when I go back to the phone in half an hour there's never anyone there:rolleyes:

Good idea, letting the scammer wait. I have been watching Scammers getting scammed on utube.Some are so funny.

Usually if it's an automated service you can stay on the line. After the robot is done talking "Press one to connect or two to hang up". If you wait a few seconds the robot usually has a third option to be placed on an internal do not call list. (Usually pressing 9)

Also, answering the phone and telling them you want to be placed on the do not call list, they'll usually honor that. But if your name/number is on the national do not call list in the USA, it's illegal for telemarketers to call. Threatening to fine or even reporting them to the BBB will do the trick (usually).

Most of this info I learned when I was in sales for TruGreen Lawncare. Hopefully it helps.

Do Not Call is broken
The Federal Trade Commission is in charge of the “Do Not Call Registry”, but the FTC’s own website acknowledges they no longer investigate individual complaints.

“Due to the volume of complaints, the FTC cannot respond directly to every complaint. The FTC and other law enforcement agencies analyze complaints to spot trends and to identify and take action against the people responsible for these illegal calls,” according to the FTC website.
 
Back in the day before we had..(do not call list or caller ID)) we used an air horn...seemed to work.. :sneaky:
