I have a home network and my computer is connected to my router using a cable. I can browse the internet so I know the cable works. I have a NAS plugged into my router and I can access the files on the NAS by logging into the router on a browser and then selecting the NAS, which opens a window to log in to it but I want to be able to access it through the windows file explorer.

I have tried to type in \\192.168.178.250 in the address bar where it says This PC but that gives me the error "windows cannot access.......". If I type in the same number without the back slashes, a window is opened in a browser to log in to router.

I used to be able to do this and am not sure what has happened that i can't map the drive to windows explorer.

Can someone help me please?
 
what is make/model of NAS?
you may have to turn on something, like, have you enabled the SMB file service?
also, turn on Enable Windows network discovery on the NAS.
have you created a user on the NAS that allows access to the SMB application?

lot's of variables like your PC, your NAS type, what type of access you want people to have.
 
I am watching a you tube clip showing me how to enable it and it says to go into the "turn windows features on or off" section and enable all of the SMB features, is there a security issue with enabling all the SMB options?
 
A Windows PC won't be able to talk to the NAS unless its SMB service is enabled.
security is then covered by the user profiles you set up in the NAS.

so you would have an Admin user, with a strong password that has *** mode.
then setup a standard user with read/write access to certain folders.
so something like, Son1 has read/write to Media Library folder, Son2 has read-only to Backup folder and Wife has read/write to all folders except Software folder.

Internet access can be enabled or disable depending on the remote access settings. I always have my NAS units only enabled for the local network.
