I do my updates manually every two weeks.
On the last 3/4 occasions when I have installed updates, the Google History Drop Down list stops working - when I uninstall the updates the drop down list is OK again.
I have spoken to Microsoft - all they say is that updates would not cause this problem!!
Please see attached pic.

Do I install updates and hope the problem eventually sorts itself out, and do without Drop Down list, or keep uninstalling them each time?

Try installing one update, then waiting a while to see if the issue appears. If not, move to the next one. It appears that Microsoft re-released the KB 3197868 update a few days ago due to bugs. I assume that you're using searches though that search box and not Google.com itself correct?

jmarket,

Thanks for reply.
No updates currently available.
I use that search box (drop down menu) mainly for ease when it works ! - Not for searching
Obviously I use the main Google search box for new searches.
As I mentioned earlier KB 3197868 failed to installed.
I tried to install from the following site:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3197868, but screen said that "The update is not applicable to your computer."

Ok I use FireFox BUT I would assume IE can kind of have the same issues.

Could be Java issue or an Add-on in IE that is possible issue.
Update Java or uninstall Java reinstall.

Are any of the updates Java?

It maybe an Add-on so try disabling add-ons ,uninstall maybe reinstall.
Click Here on how to disable/enable Add-ons.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Google Toolbar - no change.
Tried disabling the addons that were enabled inc. Java - no change - so enabled them again.
Java is up to date.
Tried Firefox - the Googlebar Lite Toolbar works OK. (As far as I know there is no actual Google Toolbar for Firefox??)

Don't install Optional updates. The one you posted you installed in # 6 is to be avoided
https://www.askwoody.com/2016/avoid...luding-kb-3197869-and-3197875/comment-page-1/

Basically, installing an optional update which is a "preview" of what is to come, makes you a Beta tester for MS.

My four Windows 7 computers have lots of optional updates I've never chosen to install.

You might also try KB 3197867 which is a bundled Security Only update. It includes 8 security fixes outlined here
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3197867
and the 64 bit version is 88MB in size.

KB3197868 weighs in at 134MB. MS doesn't specify what those 46 MB of extra updates consist of.
