Solved Windows sometimes takes very long time to shut down (if at all)

Hello.

I have a odd fault in my system.
Sometimes my system doesn't shut down, or it takes more than 15 min (after that i forcefully shut down my system via power button).
but most of the time it will shut down normally, (system fully shut down within 20 sec after shut down command issued).

The issue arose after system re-installation after an upgrade to my hardware.
here is my system specs:

Intel Core i7 8700K
16 GB DDR4 RAM
Nvidia GTX970, 4 GB VRAM
Sys drive: 250 GB SSD
D: 1 TB Samsung 7200 rpm
E: 500 GB Samsung 7200 rpm
F: 1 TB Seagate 7200 rpm
Windows 10 Pro - 64-bit Preview edition
HID: Cooler Master - Masterkeys Lite L (mouse & keyboard combo)

Before i re-installed windows (after my upgrade) windows took about 10 min to shut down, now as i said, i forcefully shut down my computer after 15 or 20 min (one episode of "scrubs" on Netflix). Next time i happens i will let it just stand there and i might shut off the display so it won't "burn in the image"

No, i haven't checked any logs, i don't know where to start.
 
This will pull the logs for us.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Mini Dump Files


Please copy and paste the information into you next post.

*ahem* Yeah that's right..., flat monitors have dead pixels and CRT got the other thing...
i had one monochrome screen that got my game directory list "burnt" in (in ms dos), my dad almost killed me back then...
(forgot the computer on when we went on vacation)...

Well, i haven't used Tixati since my system re-installation, but if you think i may be security related then by all means...
I got MBAM as primary AV/AMW and Windows Defender as secondary, and they haven't reported anything suspicious yet...

How did you do the system restore?
Where did the installation software come form?
Did you install the drivers and chipset in the proper order?

See if any of this helps. What is the longest that you have let it sit doing that to see if it eventually shuts off. Have heard of some taking a few hours reason being that Windows 10 is attempting to correct a issue during shut down.
Did you ever wait and what was the outcome?
How long and if it did finally shut down has it repeated?

Settings -> Windows Update & Security -> Windows Defender Security Centre -> Fresh Start

I have Windows 10 Pro and i am on the "insider program" so i always get the .iso for my version of the system. So to answer your question, Microsoft.

I ran the MB:s installation DVD and it did it all for me so i assume so...

I happen again last night and i let be, just as suggested and when i woke up this morning the computer was off so it took some were between 1 - 7 hours for it th shut down. This is the first time since my initial post, so it is very random.

This may explain why you are having issues. You are beta test the new releases for windows prior to them going to the public.

Does it seem to happen after you reboot?
turn on after a complete shut down?
after an update?
 
The only "warning" i get is that i can't use the "Shut down" command in the start menu.
When i click "Shut Down" nothing happens, so i have to issue the shut down command via the task manager.

other than that i seems completely random...

The "turn on" today was completely normal, it took about 20 sec as usual...
 
Create a restore point first.


Then....

Clean up temp files and reduce startup load with CCleaner.


Note: This tool will clean your browsing history as well.


  • Download CCleaner from here.
  • After install Click Options.
  • Go to monitoring.
  • Uncheck All Monitoring items.
  • Go to advanced -- Click close program after cleaning.
  • Go to settings -- click run ccleaner when the computer starts.
  • Now that you have ccleaner installed and set-up:
  • Open the program.
  • Go to Tools
  • Go to Startup
  • Now double click each item. To Disable.
  • Leave only your antivirus enabled.
  • Then disable All items in your scheduled task as well.
  • Unless they are related to windows defender.Or your antivirus.
  • Reboot the machine.


Update your drivers Snappy Driver Installer.


Then Run the windows all in one repair tool. Once in safe mode then once in normal mode.
