Solved Will new graphics card work?

Hello Everyone, I have recently decided to upgrade my graphics card. I have a Dell XPS 8910 Win10 16GB MEM Intel Core i7-6700. I am in the budget to purchase the GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB GDDR6. The issue is that I started to look through the 8910 Manual for the Video specifications and right below the list of previously compatible cards is a tab named Memory which states(Up to 4GB GDDR5) Does this mean my board will not be compatible with anything over GDDR5?

Hello DizzzyPC,

A GDDR6 add on GPU will work in your MB without any issue so no problem there but being that your computer is a Dell system two other things need to be taken into account.

(1) Is there enough room inside the case for a GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB GDDR6.

(2) This the more likely of the two to be a problem, the present PSU is most likely not good enough to support a GeForce GTX 1660Ti 6GB GDDR6.

You will need to take off the side of the case and measure how much room there is for any add on video card + check the dimensions and specifications of the present PSU.

Thank You, I will take that into account. With the PSU, is there a software that will allow me to check the current power consumption to figure if there will be enough power to support the new GPU?

Unfortunately no and fwiw Dell and other brand names go cheap on the PSUs that they use to keep costs down.

Check the specs of any GPU before making the purchase, good quality brands most often tell you what PSU is required, Nvidea example here

Your model of PC ships with three different spec of PSU, none of them are very good and if yours is not the 460W Bronze efficiency rated PSU + have the required supplemental power dongle from the PSU that the GPU requires don`t purchase the new GPU.
