Solved Which Graphics Card is Better?

Status
Not open for further replies.
I'm thinking of purchasing a graphics card, I have two options. A GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gaming x 4G, or a AMD Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5. This is for a budget video editing rig, they both prices are the same so I'm not sure which to get, or which is better, or are they the same.

Update. I've decided to go with a AMD Ryzen 7 2700 CPU instead of a Ryzen 5, so since I'm not going to use this rig for gaming, and I heard that a graphics card won't necesarily help with video processing (I guess with video processing/editing the CPU is more important?) do I even need a graphics card? Or will the processor be good enough, along with the 16gb of DDR4 3000MHz RAM. I'm editing mostly 1080p video at 60fps

your bottleneck is always Input/Output (I/O) - where ever that may be; RAM, storage, CPU, GPU.
improving the bus speeds on any (and all) of those will help with video processing, which basically is all gaming is.
I'd be getting as good as my budget allows, each of those components, plus throw in a SSD.

Yeah I'm planning on a 256gb m.2 for OS, and either a 1 or 2 tb SSD for storage. I'm really on the fence though about whether I should get a graphics card. Maybe I'll hold off on that and see how it does with just a good CPU. This is a bit of a long term project, I'm just buying a few parts every week, and try to keep it under $1000.00

Of the 2 video cards you listed the 1050ti would be the better choice.
Okay well now I think I may have found a better option. On Amazon I found a ASUS PH-GTX1060-3G thats been "renewed" for only $119.00 which is $120 less then if I bought it brand new from NewEgg. It sounds like an awesome deal, but how does it compare to the 1050Ti, again I'm not really that educated on graphics cards, I've never gamed before. And what is your experiance with refurbished/renewed products from Amazon (I got a refurbished HHD from them and it worked fine) any input would be greatly appreciated, especially on how it compares to the 1050Ti. Also it turns out I am going to have to purchase a graphics card since the MOBO I purchased only supports graphics/video output if there is a graphics card or the processors had a GPU, which mine doesn't have.

Full specs:
Rosewill Gaming 80+ Gold 550W PSU
MSI B450M Pro-M2 MOBO
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8GBx2) DDR4-3000
Case Phanteks Eclipse Steel ATX Mid Tower (with fancy rgb lighting, lol)
OS SSD Intel SSD 660p Series 512GB M.2
Storage Samsung 860 QVO 1TB SSD
Hopefully all of that will work together with that Graphics card, any thoughts?

Does your system meed the Spec shown here?

That card requires a 500 Watt not including what the other hardware requires.

What is the make and model of the Power Supply unit that you want to use and does it have the proper connections and enough power (wattage)? @phillpower2
I think so, my MOBO is kind of smal its a mATX I am getting a 550W PSU bt the MOBO only has one pci-e slot and the m.2 slot is right next to it so it's going to be a tight fit since it says it extends the fan over two pci slots, but that doesn't mean it actually uses two right, it just extends over two? I listed my builds full specs here.

To answer your question
the 1060 is technically better than the 1050ti. Just be aware there are plenty of used cards out there that have been used for mining. Be VERY bloody careful.
