I'm in the process of "restoring" (if you will) an old Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop, and before I install Windows, I want to make sure al the parts are in working order. I need to find an OS that supports live boot from USB or CD, and supports my old laptop specs.
Intel Pentium III 850mhz
256mb DDR RAM
ATI Mobility 128 AGP 4X GPU

Thanks in advance...

Gee, they are "moderate" grade specs. You could also look at some of the Linux distros. For a real poverty pack instal you could try Linux Puppy, or if you want to move a little up market Linux Zorin.

I like poverty, so I tried Puppy Precise 5.7.1 and it works fine for me. Thanks!

Its a pretty basic Linux but it works well on low spec machines. If you want you could try Zorin, It's a bit flashier, with more goodies.
Good luck with it. PM a staff member if you need the thread re opened:)
