Hello everyone
Recently I started to pick up networking and im trying to learn more about it. For the last couple of days I've been trying to set up a VPN connection between my laptop (wifi) and desktop (ethernet). Where the laptop is hosting the vpn connection and my desktop will connect to the host. I've taken the following steps:
1) Made the ip for my laptop and desktop static (IPv4)
2) I made an incoming connection on my laptop (gave it a new name and password). I also set the ip range (so the ip from the host and client will not be in this range).
3) I have created a VPN on the desktop and put the laptop's ip as server ip.
After I press the connect button and have filled in my username + password I get this error message:
“The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed. The VPN server might be unreachable. If this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters for Ipsec negotiation might not be configured properly.”
Tried following steps to solve this error:
My regards

Tried following steps to solve this error:
- Add exceptions to windows firewall, even tried disabling both firewalls (laptop and desktop)
- Changed the VPN type to PPTP, this gives me another error message: ” The network between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission …”
- Switching off IPv6 on the VPN
- Readjusting router setting to allow Portforwarding and set the ip adres from my laptop and start and end port as 1723. Activated TCP/UDP. (dont think this step is necessary because its LAN)
