I have a Dell 7010 i5 intel which i brought about a week ago was running Windows 10 but i needed it to run XP to run my software so the seller a reputable seller loaded XP for me, it has a wireless dongle to connect to the net, i can get google search page and a list of what i want to find but when i click on a result i get web page cannot be found and a list of things to do, why can i get on Google and nothing else, i have tried with the firewall off and have no antivirus installed.

check your proxy settings.
go to Control Panel, Internet options, Connections, LAN settings, and make sure ALL boxes not not ticked.

then go to Control Panel, Network & Sharing centre, Change adapter settings, right click your wireless adapter, Properties, untick Internet Protocol Ve4rsion 6, and double click Internet Protocol Version 4, make sure the first option in each section is set to Obtain automatically.

Not a windows user really didn't know that existed feel a right numty now.

Software i use is from 2001 and need it to run my business.

Thanks anyway

Could Bruce do some screen shots as i'm unable to find some of the options.

if you want screen shots of my post #2, I no longer have access to my virtual machine which I used for XP.
those instructions are for Win10, but XP is not far removed.

where are you getting stuck?

@PeterOz - do you still have access to a XP PC?

As per post 4 try K-Melon
IE Chrome etc will not work.
Your proxy settings and the other settings should all be fine otherwise you would not get google.

In my opinion only
If you needed to run xp the better option would have been.
Option 1) Run windows 10 and install Virtual box. (free program).
Install XP on Virtual Box and install your program.
Option 2) Install windows 7 and install Microsoft XP mode and install your program.

The benefit of both options above is you could connect a second monitor.
Start win 10 (for example) Start Virtual box with xp.
Have windows 10 on one monitor and have XP with your program on the second monitor

Also you can transfer files between Win 10 or 7 and xp
