Hello everyone,

Yesterday I accidentally turned off my fairly new laptop via the power button on the keyboard (I thought it would go to sleep) and when I turned it on this morning, it seemed to have crashed.

Instead of the regular login screen with my username Noah, I see a dark blue screen and am asked to log into a very old email address which I can't remember ever using on this laptop.

None of the passwords work and I see the error 'The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded'. When I click 'ok', it seems to kind of reboot very fast and it goes to a light blue screen with the time. When I click any key, I'm asked to login again.

In the bottom right corner there's a power button on the screen but nothing happens when I click it. The only thing I can do is turn it off via the power button on my keyboard.

Any helps is immensely appreciated.

Thank you,

Dylan

Hi Dylan
Looks like you have a corrupt profile. Can you boot to safe mode. Click On Me this shows different methods. Scroll down

How to enter Windows 10’s Safe Mode by interrupting the normal boot sequence (three times in a row)

When in safe mode run a command prompt as admin Click On Me at the prompt type in chkdsk c: /f /r
If that does not work reboot and create a new user when in safe mode. Reboot and try to log in as new user
What happens?

Cheers

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your response. Before posting on any forums I tried a Google search, had found the website you shared and tried what they recommended but unfortunately without success.

I'm not able to boot in safe mode or run command prompt - I'm unable to do anything at all rather than enter my password for . I'll share a photo of how it looks. The only other thing I technically should be able to do is click the 'Power' button in the bottom right corner to shut down or restart but nothing happens when I click that.

Thank you,

Dylan

Thank you Rustys. The problem is not with the password however - I know the password to my old email address but once again I can't remember ever using it on my laptop. Before this happened, the login screen always showed my username/nickname Noah, I've never had to login with an email address.

So now I'm stuck - what do I do? Just throw my laptop away?

just to confirm, as the PC boots, you have push the power button in for a few seconds until the machine shut off.
and you did this at least four times in a row?

what should have happened is you get a message, something like "Windows couldn't start properly, please wait" and it takes you into the Advanced Startup Options menu. in there, you can reset your PC - either keeping your files and settings or keeping nothing.
could you get that far?

failing that, I would be getting the Windows Media Creation Tool and using that to make a bootable USB stick with the latest Windows build on it. then booting with that in the PC and reloading Windows afresh.

other options - you say the unit is new, any chance it is under warranty still?
you say 'none of the passwords work' in one post and 'you know the password' in another post- what happens when you enter it?

I suppose you have no backup of your personal data or any system image snapshots?
