Also try this open cmd and type msdt.exe -id Devicediagnostis this fixes the problem most of the time.

What I would try is on laptop
find the current ip range

Click on start. Either type or copy and paste what is in Blue. What is in Red is what you do e.g Enter (Press the Enter key)

ipconfig /all Enter

You may have to scroll back up you are looking for e.g

IPv4 address 192.168.0.5

Subnet 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.0.1

Or the numbers could start with 10 instead of 192.

On the other machine set a static ip - pick a number in the range
e.g if laptop is 192.168.0.5 make this one 192.168.0.55

Click on the search and type in network status

You should get a settings list showing Network Status

Click on Ethernet on the left-hand side

Click on change adapter options on the right-hand side

Right click on Ethernet

Left click on Properties

Left click on Internet Protocol Version (TCP/IPv4)

Left click on Properties

Left click on use the following IP Address

Put in the ip address information you got from ipconfig /all

Click Ok >Close
Test
Clear as mud?

The properties are also asking me for a Preferred DNS server and an alternate DNS server. Where would I find that information?

It was @PeterOz who had the idea to set the static IP. I just helped his instructions along. Have a great day. 🙂

Also, keep this tool handy, it is a simple tool to set a static IP with ease. It works on windows 10 and 11 just doesn't say that it does.

Simple Static IP

🙂
