Roughly 2 years ago I received a laptop from work. I am not an admin, so I have no access to any advanced settings. The operating system is Windows 11. I have a lot of work saved on it. I have been doing some work on it yesterday - all was working fine. I don't recall any issues or system updates. I tried to use it today, without thinking I put in my pin. It told me incorrect password. I'm very confused; I thought maybe I had a blonde moment and just typed in the wrong thing. But I have tried every possible password I have ever used for anything. I am certain it was pin I always used, I was only using it yesterday! It gives me no option to change from password to pin. I have tried resetting it and scanning for problems but it won't let me again, possibly because I am no admin. Has this ever happened to anyone before, and does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

g'day and welcome to the forum. :)

the forum rule for help regarding passwords/PINs etc was recently changed (Rule #13).
there is still some clarification that needs to be added to the rule, so apologies to @jmarket if I go outside the guidelines here....

the first thing I would be doing is removing the drive from the laptop and getting any data off it you want - assuming you don't already have your files backed up. whack it into another PC, or put it into and external drive enclosure.

I'll await confirmation before anything else is suggested.
