Still having trouble connecting to the internet

Status
Not open for further replies.
Further to my last post, I am still having trouble connecting to the internet. I did update my bios, and disabled and re-enabled LAN in bios, it only worked for a short period of time. I also tried all of the suggestions in the last post.

It's both Ethernet and WIFI I am having trouble with. I have a USB WIFI adaptor I use, and every time I try to connect, it says "Can't connect to network". I also just did another network reset as troubleshooting recommended it.

Can anyone help me?

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

I actually didn't have the internet to do this so had to use a memory stick.

Will skip the speccy report for now.

Have you tried rebooting the entire network?

Reset the affected system network back to a factory setting using Windows or DOS commands?

Are you ADSL, Satellite, Fiber, and or Cable for internet?

Are other devices having issues with stable connections?

Yes I have tried, as stated in my last post.

I am hooked up to a booster plug via ethernet.

The internet is Fiber Optic broadband.

All devices have been connecting fine, since this problem started.

I am noticing a few software problems on this computer too. Windows has been downloading updates in the background, and every time I get something working after hours of fixing, the software/internet breaks again. It's very annoying.

you have yet answered this let us know if you need the instructions.

I also just did another network reset as troubleshooting recommended it.
be more specific from the troubleshooting or ??

you have confirmed that airplane mode is not on?

Disabling and reenabling the network adapters?

have the WiFi connections removed and then readd them again.

what security setting and software are you using?

VPN?

is it connecting to the network and just not the internet?

no static IP or setting in the IP address for the affected system?

checked the setting for the modem and router to make sure nothing stopping it there?

I performed a network reset through windows settings.

Airplane mode is not on.

VPN is 100% not on.

The computer is not even showing up when I log into router.

I tried disabling and re-enableing network a dozen times already.

I'm using Avast One (which I'm having problems with loading into smart scan. I had this proble couple times before, uninstalled and reinstalled did the trick temporarily.)

Windows defender is disabled along with firewall.

I tried changing the IP address when it manged to work on me one day, I took down the IP address and DNS server details, and entered them in to IPV4 settings. I have been trying both this and static IP address and nothing.

Do you mean boot into Safe mode?

No not Safe Mode use Clean Boot.

If Clean Boot does not work, then attempt Safe Mode with Networking.

Does not always work and is a temporary fix if it works at all.

The once highly rated Avast is no longer recommended by most tech forums, it has become a monster in that it foists all sorts of unwanted junk on unsuspecting folk and they can be an absolute nightmare to get rid of, browser plug ins etc, there is also the matter of Avast admits to ‘unacceptable’ sharing of user data: what you need to know

Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

Once Avast has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Another thing to attempt is creating a new user account on that system.
Not sure if we have attempted.

Then there is SFC.

Safe mode with Networking is fine. The Internet is working. Okay, I'll uninstall Avast, see how it goes :)
