Hello, I am having an issue trying to install software, it is generating these errors. The installer runs and stalls at this dialogue box.

Pressing OK then generates another error

The reason of listed it in this forum is because I tried another Windows 10 PC and it installs fine.

There's heaps of hits on Google for this issue and a common workaround seems to be to wait until the installer stalls then change the attributes for the Program files installation folder and Program data installation folders to remove the "read only" flag. This of course cannot be done in Windows 10. I have actually created the program data install folder along with the program file install folder manually and given them full permission for all users.

I am admin of the pc, and its 64bit pro version, and the Author has nothing about it listed.

Any clues please?

Have you tried enabling the Admin account and installing the program from there? Another thing to do is try and install it under a clean boot.

I had exactly the same issue yesterday with a new install.
When it wouldn't install programs, I then installed a reader, Adobe Flash player and Sun Java.
Then all programs installed fine.
On other occasions, it has been the Windows Installer, that's why I mentioned.

I just got back from shopping and didn't see the screen shot, Mal. My Bad!!

You shouldn't need to install under clean boot, anytime.

I have ran into issues where this was a viable option, can you explain your reasoning behind this? Have seen an antivirus stop the installation of certain items... So yes there are times a clean boot will help when installing software.

Well, finally got there.
  • Tried to install it under Windows Admin account, no luck.
  • Tried to install it via clean boot, no luck.
  • Tried using FRST and Clearlnk to clean my shortcuts, no luck, but heaps of junk gone.
  • Removed updates installed a few days earlier, nope no luck again.
  • Reinstalled updates again, this time they included the Creators Update. Cleaned the mess left behind after that massive update, and BINGO installed immediately.
Thank you @Malnutrition and @DOUGIE for your suggestions:):)
Guess we will never know the exact cause, but it now works.
Marked solved.
