2 PCs old (W10) and a new PC (W11) both same BT/EE Wifi Access point router and both have working connections from this to Internet, so each PC connectivity is working.
I wish to copy across my stored files to the new PC. .... i.e access to drag & drop files

I enabled file sharing on W10 PC
Went to file explorer ..
Selected my E:\
Right click > give access to > advanced sharing
share this folder’ is ticked
Selected the E:\ and in permission selected everyone
Saved

Sharing.webp
(pic of shared folder )

I went to W11 Pc (new)
Tried to add W10 PC using
This PC > right click "Add a network location"
Choose a custom network location>
"Network address > \\Rick-pc\e:\

I get error "The folder your entered is not a valid location"
same error if I use \\Rick-pc\e

What do I need to set on W11 PC to be able to get to files on W10 PC ?

If post 4 does not work.
On windows 10
Click on the windows icon in the task bar
Type in cmd
Select the command prompt app.
Open the cmd prompt
Copy and paste ipconfig /all >"%userprofile%\desktop\ipconfig.txt" Press Enter
This will put a txt file on your desktop.

Do the same for windows 11
post the text files in your next reply.

Honestly, while what you are after is certainly doable, it can be fiddly to setup, and also require maintenance down the track as the connection gets broken and needs re-establishing, for what-ever reason.

These days thanks to cloud storage, I would setup a OneDrive or Dropbox (or similar) account if you need to do this regularly, or use a USB stick if it's not going to be too regular.

It comes down to how much stress are you happy to deal with. 🙂
