Hi,

Earlier on my PC crashed (twice) with a blue screen displaying this as a problem 'rtkvhd64.sys'. I've done a bit of a search and discovered that there maybe something lurking on my PC that could be causing this. If I needed this looking into, what info would you want from my PC that I could upload here?

Many thanks,

Ginger-Overlord

In your other topic we removed a couple of driver update programs, It is possible that before removal they installed a bad driver. I did however forget to remove one file related to one of the driver updater programs.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\JitDriver.sys

Open elevated command prompt:
Copy and paste the following:
Code:
 del /f /q "C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\JitDriver.sys"
Hit enter.

RTKVHD64.sys is a system file associated with the Realtek audio

Now this should be the correct driver for your audio. https://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/realtek_hd_audio_xp.zip

Also, we will look at the dump files. 🙂

Open the file location C:\Windows\MiniDump edit select all cut.
Create a new folder on the desktop paste the minidumps inside of it, zip it up with 7zip.
Upload it here.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop.
Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator.
When the program opens check mark Select All Then hit GO
Please post the log in your next reply. Attach or copy and paste, whatever is easier for you.

Speccy Scan.

  • Please go here and download Speccy.
  • Install and run the program.
  • Upon Completion:
  • Hit File
  • Publish Snap Shot
  • A link will appear, post that link.

Hi again,

Thanks for taking time-out to have a look at my PC issue. Sorry to be a pain.

minidump and log attached

Speccy link:

I tried running the Realtek driver setup but got a message saying: 'No driver was supported in this driver package'

I'm in work now until later this afternoon but will take a look at your response once I am home.

Thanks again.

I'm sorry, I may be confused here - when you say 'do you use this software?' what software do you mean?

Thanks.

Hi,

Yeah, got it - sorry.

You mean Microsoft SQL server? No, I've never knowingly used that.

I'll uninstall it.

Hi,

I still have:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Objects (32-bit)
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (32-bit)
Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types (32-bit)

Am I ok to remove these too?

Yes. All the errors in your minitoolbox log are geared towards the server software. Uninstall it reboot the machine.

Copy and paste the following command into the elevated command prompt, and press Enter

Code:
for /F "tokens=*" %1 in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO wevtutil.exe cl "%1"

This command will clear all event logs.

Run the Command: To also stop windows updates from installing drivers. There is really no need to continually keep installing drivers if things are running ok.

  • Open File explorer WinKey+E press at the same time.
  • Right click "This PC" and select properties
  • Click "Advanced system settings" and select "Hardware" tab
  • Click "Device Installation Settings"
  • Select "No, let me choose what to do" and check "Never install driver software from Windows Update"

Copy and paste the command into the Elevated Command Prompt window:

Code:
REG ADD "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DriverSearching" /v "SearchOrderConfig" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Press Enter.

Getting this when I try and run the code:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>REG ADD "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DriverSearching" /v "SearchOrderConfig" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
ERROR: Invalid key name.
Type "REG ADD /?" for usage.

Ok, let's do it this way. This will prevent windows update from installing drivers, there is no need to keep updating drivers if the ones you have work then no need to mess with them. I have been helping in forums for close to 20 years, and have seen windows update break many many systems with driver updates.
  • Open Notepad.
  • Copy the code below, do not copy the word code.
  • Paste into open notepad.
  • Save to desktop as 456.reg
  • Right click 456.reg and select merge.
  • Reboot the computer for changes to take effect.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
"SearchOrderConfig"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UpdatePolicy\PolicyState]

"ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
"SearchOrderConfig"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UpdatePolicy\PolicyState]
"ExcludeWUDrivers"=dword:00000001
Hi,

That completed sucessfully. I'll monitor this PC going forward.

Thanks again for your help and advice.

*I do have another very slight annoying issues but I don't think it's related to this one, I'll start another thread 🙂

Do you want to close this thread now?

Cheers,

I’ll mark it solved. If there is any reason to open back up. We can. 👍
