Researching a new laptop - how do I find out if.....

Hi, I am researching a new laptop that I need to connect to 3 external monitors. My laptop is always closed while working, so the 3 are all I need.

Does anyone know what part in the 'specs' will tell me that the laptop can use 3 external monitors. To be more specific, I will need a docking station, but not sure if any laptop will work? It seems as though certain USB ports are 'data-only' which I am not exactly sure what that means.

I currently have a Plugable USB-C docking station (missing the power cord but ordered a new one), but I don't think my Lenovo Ideapad s340 can handle a docking station.

That is why I am in the market for a new laptop. Thanks for any help you might have.

Exactly that you can only connect a usb cord to transfer data E.g external drive.
USB-C with DP alt mode will let you connect a monitor

So a laptop with a hdmi and two DP alt mode ports will give 3 monitors.
The main point to look for is the CPU if it can support 3 monitors
For example go Click On Me and scroll down to displays. You will see this supports 4 displays
or if the laoptop has dedicated graphics card
You can also use a standard USB with a usb display adapter
