I have a home build desktop PC and I recently backed up all my files and folders with the intention of upgrading to Windows 10. At present I cannot do this, but what is more frustrating is that I cannot download any software or programs, even adobe acrobat reader will not install ! , I figured that I should have The Service pack for Windows 7, but like the aforementioned, it Will download, but when I open it to install it will not and this is the case for any software. Can anyone help with advice ?

Solved Reinstalled Windows 7 and now cannot open any software to run

what error do you get when installing software?
have you tried using the Windows Media Creation Tool to make a bootable USB stick with the latest Win10 build?

Why not do a clean install of windows 10.
You have all your data backed up -and tested I assume?
A fresh install is always the best way to go.

It comes up with “Script error “ I just tried again with Adobe Acrobat PDF reader and it downloaded but when opening and running it I get “An error occurred in the script on this page”.

When opening the MediaCreationTool I get “Error code: 0x8007ZF8F- 0X2000

Put firefox on a USB from another computer, install firefox, then your programs from within it. I suspect that outdated internet explorer is the issue here.
Or hit start button.
Type hh hit enter.
Right click the ? mark and select jump to URL
Type in

If you see something about continuing to run scripts on the page select no.
then from within Google.
type in firefox and download it.
Or Jump to URL and type this exactly

Thanks for the advice, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and when running that browser downloaded adobe acrobat pdf reader and was able to open and run the program. It seems that the script error is connected with internet explorer which I never use and was stopped in 2022 .
I will attempt to install Windows 10 this weekend, I was gi the opportunity numerous times from Microsoft over the years but never acted on it, and now I am wondering if my motherboard will still be suitable for the upgrade to Windows 10.
I should’ve pointed out that I still cannot click on the pdf file and have it open, but I can click on it and drop it into google browser a nd it will open and display as normal.

Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB

In the video at 2:35 Where to install Windows. Highlight each partition and delete.
Then install on the unallocated space.
In the video at 2:54 you will notice it restarts the computer.
When you are doing this and you get to that point Remove the usb stick whilst it is restarting.
Also if you want to setup a local account instead of logging in with a Microsoft account
Turn off your wireless network and or remove the network cable.
This point is 3.32 in the video - Choose I don't have internet.
If you want to log in with a Microsoft account then leave the network as is.
Before doing any install, it is a good idea to go to the support page for your system. Download the drivers you are going to need i.e. chipset, sound, video, wireless, etc. Whilst Win10 has a lot of native drivers, Microsoft drivers are designed for ease of use and are NOT designed for any type of performance. Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.
When you are finished with the Windows install, then install your drivers.

- Video adapter
- Network interface card (NIC)
- Audio
- Touchpad
- Any other hardware drivers needed for your particular model.

I needed to download Windows Service Pack 1 before being able to download the 'Easy Fix' for Changing the Protocols in the windows 7 registry. I then downloaded the Media Creation Tool via Firefox and when I run it I still get Error code: 0x8007ZF8F- 0X2000
Is Windows 7 system the only on that you have available to create the Windows 10 install media upon?

I have a mate who will put Windows 10 onto a USB and once I have it I will install it and see where I go from there. I will no longer want to run Windows 7 so it would be Windows 10 . I am assuming that installing Windows 10 that I can use my registry code from my genuine copy of Windows 7 to register Windows 10.

Make sure to go through @PeterOz instruction in Post 12 to make sure that you ask questions. Once you start the install since you stated it is the only system you have you will not be able to contact us for assistance.
If the system has more than one disk drive, you will need to disconnect all except the on that you are install the OS upon.
