I was running a great wall E-500 half switching psu. it just croaked only after 4 months of use. i am looking for another match though i want a more reliable brand vs this OEM crap!!! and i would also like to up the wattage to 600 watts. what would be my options?

Hey there veeg
my budget is $200.00
i plan on using my pc for basic internet tasks such as checking e-mails watching youtube streaming music and playing wow every so often
my CPU is an intel i7-12700F
gouy is geforce RTX 3060
512 mvne drive
1TB 870 EVO SSD
16 gig 3200 mhz ram
i prefer a fully modular psu also can get away with 600 watts since i won't be overclocking

i would also like to up the wattage to 600 watts
imoo
You need more then 600w
Your graphics card alone needs 600W which leaves no room for anything else.
If you buy a quality power supply that has a 10year warranty it will be money saved over the years.
Running below power will damage your graphics card

Required System Power (W) (4)
600

Is the card a stock Nvidea or a third party such as EVGA or Gigabyte etc, we need to know the exact card to be able to confirm the appropriate PSU requirements, not all brands state the same amp and wattage requirements.
it's a third party card from asus 3060. asus told me the card maxes out at 180 watts????

Did they now because if they did they told you a 100% pile of the brown stuff as that is not how things work.

Having checked three different versions of the ASUS RTX 3060 they each had one thing in common, they require the PC to be powered by a minimum of a 650W PSU, the most basic being the card here the GPU on its own accounts for but a % of that.

The PSU must be from a proven brand and be a minimum of Gold efficiency rated, Corsair RM range, EVGA or Seasonic are units that I recommend.

what's everyone's thought's and inputs on this bad boy???

Who shipped the PC with only a 500W PSU, and like you said previously, a not very good one.

The EVGA is a great PSU, more than you need but a very good unit in itself.

ASUS did wich was a surprize most of the time there pretty decent for a prebuilt system since they let you have control of things like the BIOS where's other manufactures lock em out so you can't access em!!! wich should be criminal... i only have had one bad EVGA psu since buying em and even they they replaced it with no issues great customer service as well :).. i'm just gonna have to take measurments later and see if it will fit in the basement :).

Check any of the cards that I have done here and you will see they all say minimum of 650W.

Only explanation I can come up with is that ASUS have a dumbed down version not available for purchase on the open market, OEMs like Dell and HP do this to reduce costs by getting away with using lesser quality PSUs.

The above would only make sense if your computer is ASUS branded, is it ?
