while the following may be long shots I'll grant you, I'd be doing the re-install of Windows again, but with a couple of minor tweaks.
  • re-install back on the SSD 120GB drive but with the other drive disconnected. you'll need to pull it out of the laptop. and yes, at 120GB it WILL need to be micro-managed, so a bigger drive would be recommended
  • don't put anything from the backups back on the drive until you run the new install for a few day to confirm everything is running OK. just in case you are bringing back the cause of the issue

my theory is;
  • maybe the HDD (or even the SSD) is faulty
  • you have saved onto your backup drives something that may be causing your issues
  • don't use Drive Easy, get all you drivers from the laptop's website or Windows Updates

The problem doesnt end or even start with steam, infact steam is only a recent development.

But that aside, you guys have identified a hard drive problem I had, which I didnt know about and easily gave me instructions on how to fix it.

So that I am very very grateful for.

There is nothing worse than a problem you dont know how to fix and its even worse when you dont know what to actually search for to look for tips.

So I've got 3 specific sites I have problems connecting to.

1) GOT on facebook gaming (only on this laptop)
2) Steam when using their browser function
3) Twitch

The last I am not fussed about, I rarely use it but the first 2 are a real pain. It is clearly something on this laptop as my other slower laptop is fine but I have got absolutely no idea what it is!!

Below is from steam, I mean, really? Unknown error? How helpful.

Error Code: -324

Failed to load web page (unknown error).

I am done with this problem, I really am. I had ping results from another site ready to post here and it wouldnt submit. I am going round in circles and seemingly Einstein said something about repeating something and getting the same results - INSANITY !!!!!!

This the url on the steam browser that comes up.

data:text/html,%3Cbody%3E%3C%2Fbody%3E

Now I am getting :

Error Code: -101

Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.

Laptop where I dont have any connection issues = Wifi
Gaming Laptop with connection issues = LAN - tried Wifi last night, no difference

Steam download - Fresh

No VPN or AV has been used since malnutrition spotted the problem last time around - only windows standard security

Not sure what you mean by "with the steam - just to test turn of security DO NOT WEB BROWSE just test steam"
